5847178 No.5847178 [Reply] [Original]

Original thread was >>5842938

Plot: The game focuses on Byakuren and the events that led up to her being sealed away. It will explore how she met up with the characters from UFO, and how her quest for eternal youth brought her to Makai.

Cast: Byakuren, Shinki and friends, the UFO cast, and a few surprises!

Length: At the moment we're planning on a 6 stage game with an extra stage.

Engine: I'll be writing a custom engine most likely, if not I'll just grab something else, depends on my availability. If I do write it, it'll be done in C++, and I may possibly incorporate the v8 javascript engine in for things like menus, bullet patterns, characters, etc. All the rendering will be done in C++ for speed. I picked v8 mostly for performance reasons (v8 runs JS that's compiled into bytecode in a VM, so it's pretty fast), and because it's easy to learn (easy to learn in a day or two, and very close to actionscript, which is well known), but I'm open to suggestions, as I haven't read too much about how well Python or Lua would perform, and doing it all in C++ is also an option. It will be cross-platform (Windows/OSX/Linux), but I may need someone to port it to OSX as I don't have a Mac.

What we need atm: Artists, composers for music, and maybe another experienced programmer. I have written some C++ programs several years ago, but nothing this complex, so it may be a good idea for someone to at least look over what I'm doing to make sure I'm doing things in a sane manner.

If you need a programmer I can help.
I've been wasting some time on my own (Touhou based) platformer, but it has gotten nowhere and will probably stay like that.
I was using Ruby gosu, but I think C++ would be better for something full of stuff like danmaku. Are you actually competent at programming? Your comments about doing it in Java leave some doubts in my mind... Java is the worst choice for this project. I'm not really versed in game making, but I know some stuff.
Please set up a page or email, something, so we can talk later if you want; this thread won't be here forever.

1. When did Byakuren live?
2. Where did she live?
3. Who is Myouren?
4. What is Byakuren's motive to help youkai?
5. When did Ichirin and Unzan become partners.
6. Can Ichirin control lifeforms other than Unzan? If yes, does/did she do so?
7. What was Ichirin like before she met Byakuren?
8. What was Shou like before she met Byakuren?
9. What was Murasa like before she met Byakuren?
10. What is Nazrin's role and when did she "join the party"?
11. Why and when did who start to have a temple dedicated to Bishamonten?
12. Why was Byakuren sealed and by whom?
13. When she was sealed, what happened to the others?
14. In which order did all UFO characters first meet Byakuren? (excl. herself)
15. What's the relationship between Murasa and Nue?

14. This seems up to interpretation. Still deciding, but interpret Murasa's encounter as the last one, as by then Byakuren immediately extended her hand to the youkai.
15. Murasa's last name is that of someone who sealed a nue in a myth. Their actual relationship however is vague.

However, keep in mind that I don't enforce my own version of a canon. I enjoy moe 4koma and grimdark Chado powerlevel doujins equally. I'll alter things to fit the atmosphere of the eventual work, which will depend on gameplay, dialogue, music, ect.

Direct X? Open GL? It would be easier to do with Visual C++ or C#/XNA. C++ and Direct X requires lots of years of experience, just creating the device is a pain in the ass. Open GL is maybe the better option with standar or visual C++. Using XNA is already a pain in the ass, so prepare to work very very hard.

Here's an ending for you: Suika gathers lost property and sets up a lost-and-found. Problem fuckin' solved.

Nope. As far as I know, he just stated that its cast of professional voice actors could lead people into thinking that was the original material, and that he doesn't want that to happen.

If he really forbid any more episodes from being released or not I don't know, but I'm sure I haven't seen any news saying that he did.

AQUA PLUS using K-On! VAs is ok?

If I assume that both ending and profile are true, then she continued to work as Bishamonten's disciple (the ship being the new temple) underground for the oni? No, if that were the case, they could just go right above ground again. That's not what "sealed" is.
>She kept the fact that she was a youkai a secret from humans.
Must be hard with all those humans underground!?
>it would have been self-destructive to reveal her true identity.
...

>She introduced the most honest and straightforward youkai on the mountain to Bishamonten and had the youkai gather faith in exchange.
What mountain is she from, anyway?

AQUA PLUS is not a professional animation studio, so I guess it is.

Well, have you decided how will you do your project?

By the way, how do I write in greek? Seems like I need it for my captcha.

I just hit renew every time something I can't be bothered to type comes up. Such as accents.

I don't mind the accents, but when the pi symbol comes up or Greek like that other guy had, I'm not bothering.

I find punctuation most annoying, because it's often hard to tell if it's a period or a comma.

Well, I think we could get one group of people to work on the story and artwork while another group works on the engine. We should finish at about the same time, if not one will need to wait for the other. After that, we start bringing over the story and art into something the engine can understand. After that, we spend a while testing, and once we're satisfied we're done.

Now, when people are actually writing the story and doing the art (including the music), we'll have an editing process set up to make sure it matches a level of quality. I'll be sure to check in to see how things are doing, but it may be good to get one person to do quality checks in that area.

Code is a bit easier, because it either works or doesn't work. The programmers will probably end up coming up with dummy content for testing purposes. More testing can come when we're actually converting the scripts over to the engine. We'll write the danmaku after both the story and engine are complete, but changes to either the code, story, or danmaku can be ongoing at that point.

As for organization, I'll probably set up a repository and wiki on Github. We can probably work on the story in the wiki and discuss things in the IRC room.

Friendly reminder that the spellcard system did not exist 1000 years ago. You don't have to come up with pattern names.

Is this a shmup? It sounds like more like an action/platformer type of game.
