Metroid, Zelda, Castlevania, Final Fantasy... too much to count. Touhou's music is barely on par with Megaman's music. Oh wait, troll thread.

I think the OP is trolling guys. A better question would have been, name one Touhou game with better music than a respectable video game. Touhou's music hurts my ears sometimes. The music itself isn't that bad, it's just the instruments ZUN uses.

It doesn't matter how mediocre the actual games are, the soundtracks are always god tier.

Though I will not say it's "better", as music is, like many other things, it depends on personal taste. But in my opinion, the series has amazing music.

>> No.5839451

Sure as hell not Mushihimesama. Downloaded it (PS2 ver.) a few days back from a link posted here on /jp/. The music left me rather unimpressed. Nice game with some good danmaku action, but the music fails in comparison to ZUN's. Perhaps other Cave titles have better music, though.

I can't choose... the Megaman series will always be remembered for it's awesome music.... the touhou music is too different, I can't compare them. I like both.

spark mandril
blaze heatnix
armored armadillo
megaman 2, wonka's castle.
etc, etc.

Mushihimesama's music didn't impress me too but I think it's still on par with ZUN's music. I like Mushihimesama Futari's soundtrack a lot, though. Definitely better than any Touhou soundtrack.

Indeed, but unless you can prove that music is ZUN's music and not just fan arrangements, your argument is moot. ZUN's music makes my ears bleed. Of all the songs he's made, the only song of his that I have on my harddrive is Mima's Reincarnation theme. Enjoy your trumpet spam.

>>5839443
Don't be such a sissy. Just say what's on your mind. Touhou's music doesn't come close to most JRPGs. The fan music on the other hand is a completely different story.

I don't know what you mean by "better".
Touhou songs are among the ones I remember the best, but the most inspiring ones for me have always been from either DoW or CoH.

Needed to start somewhere. It was convenient at the time so figured I'd give it a go. I'll at least play DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou before I completely write off Cave, though. So far, my initial impression is that the people who "enjoy" Cave's games are those looking for the most challenging STG experience or trolls. I find Touhou more fun thus far primarily due to the patterns and music, which is pretty much what ZUN was going for, right? Cave may not be my thing, but with as much as people hail them for being superior to Touhou, I should at least try a few more games.

Listening to Touhou is like eating a box full of bite-sized chocolates in that they're short, simple, and enjoyable. Just some good melodies but nothing really special and you can consume a lot before saying enough. Depending on which GST you listen to, the type of chocolates differ, along with their quality. The songs that trumpet spam probably have shit hidden in the center.

Meanwhile, music with actual production such as (for the sake of an example) Silent Hill is like a Lobster dinner. Tasty, well-presented, but after eating a Lobster you probably won't say "That was great. Let's have four more of those".

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we have to convince Akira to come back to Konami and make the future Silent Hill soundtracks and hunt down ZUN and tag him with a device that would deliver a painful electric shock every time he tries to make a song that involves shittons of trumpets.
