I'm not sure, but the Bern one I got was the "extra" for Umineko DVD 6. G's Festival usually has them (the most recent one was Yuri from Angel Beats!) and others you can find on auction or just online shops.

My problem is: where can you find a properly sized pillow for one? Dakimakura tend to not be universal in size, and Japan caters to that by selling different sized pillows for them in some shops...but not so for USA.

Dakimakuras are quite comfortable as long as you get a good-quality cover and inner pillow. Like what others have said, it won't snore or move during the night, and you can generally get a better night's sleep by holding it between your legs.

I'd recommend getting one if you need a body pillow for sleeping. Might as well have a pretty pillow greet you in bed everyday. Get more than one if you plan to sleep with it more than a weekly basis to keep the image fresh and minimize wear and tear for each dakimakura.

However, the catch is, you shouldn't buy yourself into poverty since dakimakuras are quite expensive for what they are (glorified pillowcases).

Also be prepared to choose IF you get a girlfriend. But that's a big 'if'.

Okay, it's not rocket science, but here are detailed step-by-step instructions:

1) Fill up a sink first and add mild detergent. Use some all-natural organic body wash or soap if you're truly afraid. Follow directions on the packaging.
2) Put the pillowcase in. Let it soak for a fairly short while. If it's a high-quality pillowcase you shouldn't worry about fading or things falling apart.
3) Gently rub the fabric between your hands in a back-and-forth or circular motion, working from one end to the other. You can avoid rubbing the face/important parts of the pillowcase if you'd like to fully preserve them. Remember to wash both sides.
4) Empty the sink.
5) Very gently, squeeze the excess soap water out of the pillowcase.
6) Refill the sink with water.
7) Put the pillowcase back in and squeeze gently to get the detergent out. Empty sink. Repeat step if necessary, until all of the detergent is gone.
8) Very gently, squeeze the excess water out of the pillowcase, from one end to the other. Try not to make the general circular wringing motion but simply squeeze it section by section between your hands.
8b) If that still seems too damaging for your pillowcase, get out a large bath towel, lay the pillowcase out flat on it, and gently press down on the pillowcase into the towel, section by section.
9) Hang the pillowcase in a dry, warm place and let it dry. Put a basin under it to catch the excess water dripping off if indoors. Do not expose it to direct sun.

As for washing, just get a container that can hold a few gallons of water. Add a bit of laundry detergent (this isn't a full load!) and cold water. Dip your girl in and out of the water, scrub her off with your hands. I usually let mine soak for a while, then repeat. Empty out the water, fill with fresh cold water. Rinse. Repeat once. Hang to dry.

I have two body pillows but no covers for them. I don't use the oldest one because it's turned flat. It's just printed characters on silk pillow cases. They're not that expensive, it's just official merchandisers love milking otaku for all they're worth. Shit takes less than $15 to make.

Go on ebay, find a seller that makes custom prints, and get your dakimakura for a fair price. Got mine for $30 (shipping included), and I thought that was a really nice price for getting a custom made.
