You know, I never really understood D&D alignment.

I mean, why are animals, for instance, considered True Neutral. That's just ridiculous. True Neutral requires a high level of judgement and a kind of uber morality/sense of balance. Animals only concerned with their own survival, like most animals, should all be Chaotic Evil, no?
