Well you could hire the adventurer and then kill masses of low level enemies in the Puppy Cave or other low level dungeons. In fact you need to at least 6 times before they'll join you. You can also get a dozen love potions and a bunch of disguise kits. Simply throw a potion then use a disguise kit repeatedly. Love potions stop working when thrown if the target is hostile apparently so you need to use disguise kits to make then friendly again.

They won't drink love potions. Poison and molotovs are a-okay, but they'll just tell you to fuck off if you hand them a love potion directly. You can spike their food with it, but the karma hit is massive.

Some people put a lot of time into moongates. Japanese people. And because of that English players who enter moongates usually only get garbles out of their names and they only say the standard NPC talk.

So I decided to go moongate jumping after turning my game to Japanese. I feel kind of impotent looking at all this dialogue that was written and having no idea what they say. I wonder what the story behind this moongate room is honestly. Hints, closed off rooms you have to dig into, and the summoning stones are right out in the open. I feel they wanted me to figure out which room had these NPCs as the others just contain monsters. One of those rooms had a CNPC called the Hate though. Wasn't an unkillable monstrosity made to oneshot me surprisingly and I killed it after a few shots. Though I guess they weren't expecting whoever entered this to be very strong as the strongest thing in these boxes were green dragons.

Anybody else come across interesting moongate rooms?

These moongates really do raise a lot of questions for me.

Hmm. Another moongate area I went to raised a thought for me. The maker apparently had two black angels. It's possible to have more than one of a single type of godpet so that made me wonder. What if you got 15 black cats? If you get 14 ranches and breed a black cat onto each one then you could recruit those 14 and have 15 total. Would this mean you get 15 chances for dropped equipment to be licked? I can't even imagine what you could do with a precious piece of equipment and trade quests.

Okay, so you give engagement rings and amulets to your ally to make them fall for you.
Thing is when i take way the ring they get up set, and their inventory is already full, how do i get around this?

I'm poor as hell because I lost repeatedly to a damn hound in a dungeon, to put it simply.
The nearest town had an I WANT IT quest for an emerald for 2000g, which is just enough to allow me to resurrect my pet so we can go dungeon scavenging for books and rods.
I actually had an emerald in my pack at the time, too, and I thought luck was smiling on me.

I teleport over to the guy, and it seems he was in the middle of 'relaxing' with a prost-, a professional masseuse. Not wanting to interrupt his relaxation, I humbly waited right in front of him for him to be done, no big deal.

Then he finishes, and it seems he was so relaxed, he forgot his wallet, so he tried to pay her with a gold bar instead.
Now, the masseuse was very wise and could tell that the bar was a fake, so the whore took a dagger from out of no where and shoved it in his ribs.
He died on the spot, and I lost my chance of getting an easy 2000g, god dammit.

Got to keep the fake gold bar, though.
And I can go solo that tower for rods and spellbooks, so I guess it's fine without, but dammit.

You aren't penalised per se, you simply don't receive the bonuses associated with using a single heavy weapon.

Most people pick the claymore for the evasion bonuses, not the melee. It's really hard to find decent weapons for a fairy early game anyway. Get a shuriken made of glass or mica and use your high speed to keep at range.

Later on fairies can become a beast at melee if properly geared. You should probably aim to convert to dual wielding short swords. If you can't find any good short swords there's always the ether dagger/lucky dagger which are relatively easy to get and complement eachother really well (stamina drain and stun). Once you get the twin edge, you'll be able to melee down dragons.

Not exactly, the first piece of jewelry I gave her was a Charming Engagement ring <Hawk Hatred>, which was actually USEFUL, I figured since she liked those iId give her the ones that I come across. Problem is she equips the new ones I give her and this causes two problems.
1. They are useless and I can't get her to equip the first one I gave her.
2. They clutter up the inventory and eat up space.

That's not an intellect issue, really. Everybody and I mean everybody is a bit confused when they start out. Even those who are very experienced with rogue-likes, like myself. They all use different controls. About the only similarity you can be guaranteed to find is the numpad movement.

Just take it slow. Don't be afraid to refer to help. If you need it, write down a key map on a sheet of paper. If you're ever in doubt, you can just look at it. In time, every key will be second nature to you. That's just how it is with any rogue-like. They're complex, and that's what I love about them.

Press "c" and then hit the 9 key on the numpad. You'll see your equipped gear. Go to the slot you want to change and press enter. You can then select the appropriate thing to equip. If you already had something equipped, you will remove it. Press enter again to select what you equip.

Basically all it does is lower you down one level. This is only really useful if you're capable of getting a lot of descent potions so you can knock yourself back below level 6 which has no death penalty or taxes.

If you bless them they raise you a level. The only real benefit to doing this is more skill points and getting more feats.

They have no effect on your stats so go for the direction that sounds more appealing.

Or if you get enough descent potions you could bring yourself to level 65 for all the feats you can get from leveling and use 7 experiences of Kumiromi(one usable for every ten levels you have and I think plus one base use) and then knock yourself back down to level 6, but that would take a ton of descent potions.

Use ranged attacks and let the acid ones make blobs that kill themselves and everything around. Also leave a way to get out.

The real way to do it is to be strong enough to tank the weak putits while killing the strong ones in the back. Always keep a bunch in between you and the one you're targeting.

That doesn't make me sad. What makes me sad is that big name devs don't make rogue-likes. It's almost expected to have a rogue-like be more complex than most cRPGs. Some few exceptions that have different levels of complexity are the classic isometric cRPGs like Baldur's Gate, Planescape, Icewind Dale, and others in that vein.

But those use a completely different system as their base, while their cRPG representation of that system is just as wonderfully involved and complex as it ever will be. Not to mention those cRPGs are more focused on having a nicely cogent story with a fulfilling combat system to back it up.

Anyway, I'm probably just being an old coot reminiscing of the good old days.

Still, what I would give for a proper Baldur's Gate 3. Dragon Age was nice, but nowhere near good enough to have truly lived up to BioWare's claim that it was the spiritual successor.

As I said in my last post, Baldur's Gate and Planescape were great cRPGs that had complexity and depth in the game system, but also had a strong story and character development. In fact, I would say that voice acting was a compliment to Baldur's Gate, and the voice acting was superb in it, too.

Oh, look at the time! The FreeJack server should be up now. It's a pretty fun MMO. Think of it as the MMO version of Jet Set Radio. It's glorious.

That's why I was having trouble seeing how it could work out.

But now this discussion has got me trying to think of ways to produce a rogue-like with modern 3D graphics. It's very intriguing. Naturally, it would still be turn based, but imagine how awesome it would be to get new players interested in rogue-likes, a genre they probably never even experienced before (even though people like myself grew up with them).

When I start this game, should i go straight to the lv1 cave too lv up?

I want to learn Dual Wield but supposedly you can only learn it from the Fighter's Guild trainer. I've never been in a guild but I don't like the idea of getting attacked for switching between them.

I'm suspecting it was when I mistook a bill for another bill, and kept paying bills that I didn't have to pay, despite paying them off, and so I paid the wrong bills, but they still took my money, despite giving me "Oi, you aren't paying your bills" notices.

Are indulgences cheap? Is there another way to not be a criminal?

Why didn't you pay each bill as they came up each month? Also if you really lost any bills then you'll need to get new ones from the Workshop. There's an upside in that they go to 0gp, but honestly small medals are worth much more that gold. You also have the option of just joining the Thieve's guild now, but I wouldn't really recommend joining a guild due to being limited to only one potential trainer after that. Also 4-7k gp bills? That's small time after you acquire any amount of fame. Seriously you start paying a lot as your fame raises. 1 gp more each point of fame. That's why people recommend you get pianist so you get to a point where gold becomes absolutely trivial. To keep your newer taxes low you should probably smakc your fame down to zero using the pet arena. Simply enter a pet then quit the match immediately by hitting esc. You can do this as much as you want so get rid of your fame.

Just do your best collecting gears/items, and pass on your gene. It's pretty hard to get out of 12+ unpaid bills if you are missing them. Also, consider being a true rogue, and start raiding cities besides Derphy. It's not like your karma can go down any worse.

Honestly I don't fully understand what's entirely required to get an adventurer to join you. You apparently need to be at least as strong as them, have hired them at least 6 times, and they must be at soul mate status. The only part I don't really understand is the strong part.

Does that mean you need to be the same level at least or have more fame or both? Anyone here with experience recruiting adventurers?

Save it if you've got nothing good on mind. It's a rod. That means it's storable. An item that comes to mind for wishing though is a secret experience of kumiromi. An aurora ring is useful if you dislike getting lost in heavy rain. A deed of dungeon can be gotten nowhere else. Gain attribute scrolls save quite a bit of platinum.

Pianist to put yourself on the path to becoming filthy rich quick. Claymores offer good evasion and casting ability. Casting honestly can't survive by itself that well so make sure you have another combat focus or decent pets if you want to use magic often. Melee and ranged are rather straightforward.

Best thing to do as a fairy is take up Jeweler, and create a bunch of inferior material scrolls.

Then just keep using them on equipment untill you get Glass or Paper.

Paper equipment is the lightest equipment material, for weapons it lowers your damage and hit, but it also increases your evasion and DV. Which, as a fairy is retardedly high already, and more just makes you untouchable.

Alternatively, you can make Superior Material scrolls and hope you get Spirit Cloth, but this is much less likely.

So apparently the 1.22 beta changes wishes. Someone said before that you only had the once per year limit after you hit level 6, but I got a wish and then got the stroke of good fortune passing me by. That was a bummer.
