Once I told a girl that I thought was cute that I watched anime and I explained to her what it was and she told me that it was stupid! Never again!

Talking to people? It happens to me very rarely, but I usually tell them I play games and surf the net. If I don't feel like talking to them ever again, I say eroge.

I am ashamed of nothing, people know I like Touhou and anime, and I am still respected for it. Most of my friends like a fair amount of anime and manga too, although not nearly as many know what Touhou is. I will admit as a by product of my otakuness I will probably never get laid, but I've accepted this fact and choose to proceed ahead anyways.

I see no reason why you can't tell people OP, you're not the only one. Alot of people find these hobbies fun.

I'm embarrassed of not having a job and not doing well in life in general. My immature hobbies are not a touchy subject, even though few people know to ask the right questions to find out about them.

Just start living extra lives. Think up a name for your alternate selves and go from there. That's what I do. Sometimes I feel like I'm just fostering some kind of mental illness within myself.

I'm like this as well. Lately I've been thinking about finding some kind of normal hobby like learning an instrument (I mean, I have lots of disposable time and you can do it perfectly alone), but can't find the motivation knowing that I'll suck at it for a few years before doing anything decent. And other common hobbies seem uninteresting.

I enjoy plenty of acceptable past times (playing popular games, watching mainstream films, reading at a level appropriate for my age) such that I have an overwhelming amount to discuss with people other than what I would choose to hide.

When other people ask about hobbies I just say fitness crap. Swimming, running, etc.

My other hobbies are making music and drawing, but I don't talk about those because they're still nerd related (video game remixes and learning to draw moe moe 2D girls). Feels OK I guess.

I tell them I watch anime, read manga, and spend my life on 4chan. Where I live, everyone is too much of a hick/ghettotard to know what any of it is.

I am dating two girls. One of them knows about my hobbies but the other I am keeping in the dark about it for a while. The one that knows is into some dorky things herself. The other one is more normal. She has been asking to come over to my place for a change. I am not sure how she will react to my figures and plushies.
