I'm currently playing through it now actually. The battle system is funnish, AI is kind of ass at some points, the world is nice but just as linear as everyone says, and personally I don't care about the story. Probably the only FF / RPG where I've skipped most of the story sequences.

Most people compare elements from one FF game to another FF game, which is retarded. I, for one, don't care if the Crystal Theme didn't play, the traditional Victory Fanfare wasn't used, 2/3 of the party is AI, game is autoplay, there's no love story, the chocobos aren't cute etc.
