I didn't miss it. Apparently you missed the whole point here. This conversation is why the 'mother' falls in love with Battler. Here, it's actually Jessica disguised as Shannon. Battler realizes this, and he plays along with it, just like he would play around with his ideal girl. He then goes to describe his ideal as being just like Jessica. That's how Jessica falls in love with him. Makes 0 sense if it's Shannon.
