The only people who will tell you this are people who are either not experienced with fighters or are not experienced with SFA3. But since this comes up A LOT, I may as well describe the reasoning behind it. SFIII3 has a lot more casual appeal. It's a lot easier to 'pick up and play', overall. But it dumbs down the game to do it. Let's refer to a tourney finals match, from one of the two SFIII3 tourneys, here to make the point.

(insert Youtube link here)

On the surface, it looks pretty good. There appears to be mindgames going on, there appears to be some fairly intricate movement. But this is mostly a joke. If you look carefuly, you'll see that the game basically devolves to:

- Dash around like crazy until someone blocks something.
- The one that landed the blocked blow does a strong pressure string, that is very difficult to escape.
- Pressure string ends with either a good read and a border escape(-1 super temporarily, jump straight up, can be punished if read) or when the offender's super bar gets low.
- In Ken's case, his stuff can be backdashed midscreen, so he's at a disadvantage in this case. Doesn't matter since it's Uehara playing there, and he's a living god of mindreading, but hey. Chun Li's, obviously, are a lot tighter and harder to get out of.

The mindgame essentially becomes "maybe it's better to get hit by this than it is to block it," because pressure is very strong when it does land and much harder to get out of. Does this sound good to you?

Essentially, SFIII3 is a very shallow game that doesn't work very well beyond casual/basic levels of play, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a skilled fighting game player who will tell you to do anything but avoid it in its current state.

Yuyuko actually has the fastest ground dash in the game if you restart the dash over and over rather than just hold it, and her horizontal movement in the air is on par with everyone else's. She's just... Really, really, really floaty. Since she works best closer to the ground this is a problem.

A common tactic when someone's sufficiently afraid of you is 5a 5a dash 5a 5a... etc. 5a is advantageous on block, so if you time it right the opponent won't be able to do crap other than shit stars out.

IaMP is like the exact opposite of a button masher. Everything you do's gotta have a purpose and you've gotta plan ahead, otherwise, you'll be flying around and shitting stars all over the place.

It's pretty neat that way, though it can be stressful at higher level play.

I notice a lot of you seem to be having problems with frame rate being under 60fps. If you're not running anything in the background to clog up the Internet, and your computers have no effects lag, then _YOU SET THE DELAY VALUE TOO LOW._ CowCaster will recommend a probably workable delay automatically when you connect, just press enter to use it, though plain old th075Caster won't.(there's a lot of reasons to use cow variant other than that, too, like custom color palettes and such.)

Reimu's all about locking down the opponent so they can't do what they want. She actually has pretty crap damage.

j.a gives her a pretty big advantage in the air, though, so it's not really a good idea to hit her head on. Yuyu's j.a is technically longer range, but the problem is that it comes out very slowly so you have to do it ahead of time. Meaning if you time it wrong, the opponent is too far behind / too close and you get whomped. Need to use Yuyu's 236 projectiles as cover so that the opponent will get interrupted if they try to just shoe you in the face for it.

The only people who will tell you this are people who are either not experienced with fighters or are not experienced with IaMP. But since this comes up A LOT, I may as well describe the reasoning behind it. SWR has a lot more casual appeal. It's a lot easier to 'pick up and play', overall. But it dumbs down the game to do it. Let's refer to a tourney finals match, from one of the two SWR tourneys, here to make the point.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yfU2gdzv90

On the surface, it looks pretty good. There appears to be mindgames going on, there appears to be some fairly intricate movement. But this is mostly a joke. If you look carefuly, you'll see that the game basically devolves to:

- Dash around like crazy until someone blocks something.
- The one that landed the blocked blow does a strong pressure string, that is very difficult to escape.
- Pressure string ends with either a good read and a border escape(-1 orb temporarily, jump straight up, can be punished if read) or when the offender's orbs get low.
- In Alice's case, her stuff can be backdashed midscreen, so she's at a disadvantage in this case. Doesn't matter since it's TamaPO playing there, and he's a living god of mindreading, but hey. Aya's, obviously, are a lot tighter and harder to get out of.

The mindgame essentially becomes "maybe it's better to get hit by this than it is to block it," because pressure is very strong when it does land and much harder to get out of. Does this sound good to you?

Essentially, SWR is a very shallow game that doesn't work very well beyond casual/basic levels of play, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a skilled fighting game player who will tell you to do anything but avoid it in its current state.

Yes, there's only a demo out, and there's only four characters in it. Reimu, Marisa, Alice, and Aya.

As the guy who programmed SWRCaster, I can tell you a few things, though. There's 20 character profile slots in the game's internal data, rather than just the 4 for the demo. This could mean that there will be 20 in the final. It could also mean nothing at all. We don't know. But it's worth noting.

For a game to be successful in the long term, you need the support of both the casual players and the serious players. Just one or the other doesn't keep lasting appeal going.

SWR might be fun, but will it attract 150-man tournaments in Japan and a thriving community? That's another story. There's shitloads of doujin fighters that died quiet deaths because they didn't hold up on one end or another.

Let's refer to a tourney finals match, from a SF3 tourney, here to make the point.

On the surface, it looks pretty good. There appears to be mindgames going on, there appears to be some fairly intricate movement. But this is mostly a joke. If you look carefuly, you'll see that the game basically devolves to:

- Move left and right like crazy until someone whiffs something.
- Throw out a super.
- Rely on muscle memory instead of actual skill.

The mindgame essentially becomes "maybe it's better to get hit by this than it is to block it," because pressure is very strong when it does land and much harder to get out of. Does this sound good to you?

On the surface, it looks pretty good. There appears to be mindgames going on, there appears to be some fairly intricate movement. But this is mostly a joke. If you look carefuly, you'll see that the game basically devolves to:

- Reenter the same level again and again until a player "has a good feeling."
- Once someone gets 32 levels down they farm for +ability potions for six hours.
- As soon as something truly challenging comes up, the player flees immediately. All risk is avoided.
- In a Wizards case, his stuff can be identified immediately, so he's at an extreme advantage. Doesn't matter since it's Saruman playing there, and he's a living god of autoidentifying, but hey. Fighters, obviously, have a lot less variety and harder to succeed with.

The mindgame essentially becomes "maybe it's better to flee than take a single minor risk," because pressure is very strong when you don't have [foo] needed resistance. Does this sound fun to you?

>The one that landed the blocked blow does a strong pressure string, that is very difficult to escape.
>Pressure string ends with either a good read and a border escape(-1 orb temporarily, jump straight up, can be punished if read) or when the offender's orbs get low.

things swr did right:

1) orb system to tell you exactly how much something was
2) can't self-drain your spirit bar
3) made spellcards more relevant to gameplay

things swr did wrong:

1) weather system was useless
2) card system was a bad way to implement multiple spellcards
3) both weather and card system relied on randomness, and random = bad
4) swr forced you to use doubletap and the d button instead of allowing you to use one or the other like iamp did
5) the multiple applications of bomb are gone and replaced with border escape, a single specific tool for a specific situation
6) guard crushing someone was a goal in iamp and meant more implied damage (but you still had to work for it). in swr it is guaranteed damage since the next hit after gc is unblockable, so if you burn a lv5 spellcard from your guard crush, guess what, lolz u can't block it, gg
7) other minor shit in the demo that were issues but nothing that couldn't have been patched up: alice's hitboxes are all wrong, alice doesn't have her full moveset, reimu has a weird infinite, aya is overpowered, backgrounds are fucking ugly

Very, very different.

From a pressure string standpoint... IaMP has longer pressure but many more opportunities to get out of them: Basically just about everything has a gap and everything is a trap, it's all about learning how to think around your opponent. SWR's strings are more specific and have fewer holes, and the ways to get out of the strings are set at specific intervals, and the pressure always ends after a set period of time. Simplified, less mindgamey, more RPSy.

From a spatial control standpoint: Spatial coverage is also much more limited in SWR, due to how the projectile system changed, so it's harder to control space without actually being in it. Everything's faster, so there are fewer traps/fake traps and more poking. You end up with simple traps like, oh, Aya j.b j.214a making up much of the game. (Watch tourney matches, no one smart even tries to graze that shit.) Again, simplified, more RPSy, less thinking ahead involved.

On the combo thing.. You can tell the amount of skill someone has at fighting games by how much emphasis they put on combos. Combos are tactics, rather than a strategy. LANDING the combos in the first place is a strategy. SWR you get one for free off of pretty much anything you land because of the exaggerated wallslam and groundslam physics. In IaMP, everything is situational and you have to fight for the positioning for them, and the opponent will know this and fight against them. (On a side note, Marisa in SWR has a 50/50 j.2a crossup groundslam mixup into Blazing Star. Yes, the one that does a shitload of damage. And it's a stupid easy hitconfirm.)

It's a difference in the amount of depth - If you don't sit down and look at it, it's not obvious, but it's there.

There's a tutorial video in the works, which should help things, maybe within a month or so it'll be out. For the most part we recommend reading the basics guide on the front page of the wiki and playing the story mode through to get the hang of movement/grazing, once you can do that you're good to go to try some humans. #iamp always welcomes fresh meat^Wplayers.
