Sup /jp/,

I don't often come here but I figured that /a/ doesn't care for eroge/VN threads. I just spent almost a week obsessively playing the translated version of Sengoku Rance, and I thought that this game was EXCELLENT. I have a light course load this term, so I'm able to do what I do, but seriously, I haven't found any other game that has kept me playing almost 24 hours straight (well, actually, my first few hours was spent reading all of the troop stats, strategies, and commanders, when and where to get them, etc.). Here's what happened (SPOILERS BELOW):

- Started playing, didn't have a clue what to do but figured it out pretty quickly.
- Went through part of true route. Was quite happy when I got Uesugi Kenshin and realized that the only place I had heard of her before was from a doujin (but you can't forget the trademark hat she wears).
- After the demons came and started taking over houses like mad, I called bullshit and quit, never wanting to play a demon army route again.
- Restarted with a save that had all the unlocks, and enough points to pick all of the options and did the sandbox "kill the monkey" route.
- Got pretty far, but didn't finish entirely (had 3/4 of the map). Felt like there wasn't enough story since it's just a house-conquering sandbox.
- Restarted and went for Nanjo Ran route on 5 star difficulty, got rocked pretty hard once I hit the youkai, and they had over 9000 troops in a single stack, while all my stacks combined didn't even have half as many.
- Restarted except on 2-star difficulty.
- Finished Nanjo Ran route.

Why don't you look on VNDDL and VNDB to find the translator's site and from there get the patch. Everyone here should be smart enough to find what they want. It's only a problem when a source isn't provided, which isn't the case here.

What's good about this game?

- Amazing strategy for an eroge. I started playing it since I had seen the occasional thread about it and it quickly got my min/maxing juices going. I really like the Heroes of Might and Magic series types of games, and there were some familiar elements.
- Great sex scenes which are of the type and style that I like.
- Rance is an awesome character, with all the qualities that I would like to have myself: confidence, obsessiveness, good-looking but not too good looking (like the Shimazu brothers), keeps all the women for himself and himself only.

What do I not like about this game?

- Unfortunately, romance elements are too few and far in between. There's the occasional scene that has some of it, but they should probably flesh out each character with a "deeper route", meaning that you can pursue them further. I don't mean to say that I don't love the harem aspect, but harem + depth is even better.
- Nanjo Ran ending was sort of disappointing. I had a save with all the CGs, and first of all, the one included with the CGs (going back to Souun) is heartbreaking. Fortunately, you can make sure that doesn't happen but even if you do, all you get at the end is Ran being a little tsundere, though, I would like to comment more on her character.

Are you being sarcastic? I seriously can't tell. All I want to do is talk about how people felt about the game in general, and especially the characterization.

On Nanjo Ran (AGAIN, SPOILERS BELOW):

- She's sort of cute, and will always be like "no one cares about my feelings, everyone's just doing what they want".
- Even until the end when you get her rating to Love, she still barely acts like it. I really would have liked to have maybe 10-20 more of those "purple events" that flesh out that dialogue as she makes the transition from hating you to loving you.

On Naoe Ai:

I also really loved her character as well, though I don't think that I fully understood her. She's supposedly good at sex, okay with you doing it with other women, happy when you compliment her, but like Nanjo Ran, she'll refuse to accept that she belongs to you. It's hard to say what vibes I actually get from her but she seems like the loyal type.

Seriously, though, on one has any comments on character development or their own experiences? I'm stuck reading a 270 page long Hongfire thread as the only discussion thread, and it's full of "how to do this" questions.

I don't think it's much of a strategy if you have to follow some walkthrough in almost every route.(Of course you don't have to,but you're gonna have to consult it sooner or later due to stupid story fucking you up in certain ways)

Yes, there is a lot of rape, but seriously, this is a far cry from the disgusting rape you find in many other places. You mention Aki in particular, and I never even considered trying to clear Hara, so it all depends on what you do. I actually tried to clear Aki, until I realized that I had already gotten rid of Ashikaga Choushin. I even mention that the game didn't have enough romance elements, so clearly rape is not the kind of sex that I enjoy.

Also, yes, I agree with you that you couldn't do this without consulting the hundreds of hours put in by other people to play the routes and figure out what's what, however, once you have that information, you can treat it like a strategy game.
