Anime faces are very hard to make appealing from arbitrary directions; even 3dcg anime heads don't look right, and they have all kinds of pixel shaders they can apply to try to make them look more like the drawn style.

I mean, what's important in anime face? Expressions !
I know it's impossible -well let's say for now- for a kig face to show different emotions, but still it would be great.

I've seen one with eyes that could have their direction adjusted manually, and some with more deep-set eyes to have a slight "follow you" effect, but not much more than that. unfortunately that sort of thing is barely even feasible with even the highest end disney costumes.

That's where costume acting art comes in, where you must be able to show expression and emotion through your actions and body language, which is what really separates a good kig from a newbie.

The easiest would probably be animating the eyes to be able to blink and squint, since all you would need would be moving eyelid parts. A moving mouth would be difficult with the current single-piece-of-hard-plastic designs.

the look of anime faces in 3D really depends on teh skill of the modeler. Look up the Heartcatch Precure ED on youtube and they really look fantastic. The Fresh Precure EDs are less so but still very nice.

that's because people use anime as a reference.
you need some sort of 3d reference to base yourself off of, looking at figurines gives a good idea of volume.
even then if you're making this in some 3d software and you want the eyes to be perfect spheres they have to be xbox huge.
it's a pain in the ass to do "properly" so a lot of the stuff you just have to fake.

oh wow, this thread IS still alive. And I woke up so late.

I gotta say, people living/going to japan, you're still way closer to seeing any kigs than most of us. I live in Nowhere, Central US, and most of the few we have here are concentrated around Texas. I always get a bit jealous of Japanese fan circles because they can meet so easy.

I think putting LED screens on the face would make expressions easier then making it mechnical.

Besides, anime characters don't move their facial muscles much anyway, it's all isolated mouth and eye movements.

Getting something skin-tight to fit perfect can be hard... the skin color is good, but yeah taking the fingers in a bit would be a good idea. I'm not sure how easy/difficult it is to work with that material though.

It's much more enjoyable to see these costumes in a face-to-face setting though, its completely different when you get to interact with them and they are in-character, and you're not just seeing all the tiny details on a photo. Unfortunately that's difficult for most people outside of Japan!

It is possible to put one thing in the mask and that's a fan (mod in members only board on Wyu's forum) because it blows away heat instead of making it. Even that only works in a mask with a lot of room.

I've only known this stuff for a few years, so I'm pretty new compared to others.

And just keep practicing! Motivation is encouraged. Most of the kig art out there isn't too good. Well, really it's hard to draw anything outside of "oh look they have the mask off" because otherwise it just looks like a normal anime drawing. I suppose anime-style fanart for original kigurumi characters works too..

I think I've been interested in kigurumi since the early 2000's. (Back when SKA had it's old site, not when they first started)

I'd love to get try cosplaying in kigurumi, but money/geographical/material constraints prohibit me from doing so. Art is the second best thing I can do, but I never can get properly motivated to do well and I never seem to be able to do so.
