Touhou does have memorization, but its alot more than that. It has alot of reaction time and skillful maneuvering, because the spellcards do actually change up, believe it or not. It's like all of the other action games out there, action as in not turn-based or puzzle.

That part is vey simple streaming. The only time you would possibly need to unfocus is if you're running out of room by getting to close to the side of the screen and need to switch directions. Also are you trying to change directions while the lasers are being shot? Because that's a big no no.

When I first started out, I played from touhou 1. By the time I got to 6, the worst that I did was not being able to 1cc Remillia. I beat the game itself after a few tries.

Usually I used bombs, but most of the time I really wasn't expecting to die. Like when one of those flying things in the stage runs in to me or I accidentally move into an attack. It also seems like I'm rushing a bit to much during the fight. Oh well, I'll try again.

Except 99 times out of 100, the bullet that hits you is the one you didn't see. More liberal bombing is a decent salve against that. Even 2 of 3 wasted bombs per life still doubles your length of time in the game.

Deathbomb timing is too rough to bet on. It's safer, smarter, and better practice for real shmups to bomb BEFORE you die, not after, you casual safety blanket faggots.

Bombs are just tools to be used. How they are used completely varies from person to person. Eventually it gets to the point where you consider how bombs can change a particular moment in a run instead of "bomb when I think I'm going to die". Bombs are just tools, what is done with them is completely dependant on the person who is playing.

Another thing with bombs. How they are used also depends on the person's goals. There are many such as I want to 1cc the game, I want to learn how to do this spellcard, or I don't want to die. How you use bombs change according to your goals. And your goals can change. And you can have more than one goal. Bombs are used according to what the player wants to do at the moment. A person can bomb a difficult spellcard when he wants to 1cc the game and he can also not bomb it when he is just doing the stage on practice mode and wants to practice the card.

What is with all these either/or sentiments? It's not like your playstyle will forever stay the same for all eternity if you play touhou on a regular basis.

Yes you can, you are just blind. For most of the game, you should hold down shift unless you are trying to be a pro fag. Touhou is about making small movements, not LOLDBZ DODGING. Some spell cards are about putting you in a tiny box/triangle of lazers, and forcing you to move slightly to the left right and up to avoid death.

The enemies that shoot lasers can be killed before they set up the lasers and streaming is still a viable tactic here. Just start at the bottom left when this segment starts and slowly stream right occasionally moving a bit faster if it looks like you're going to be in front of a laser when they start shooting. This will work out most of the time.

Alright guys, I did that run, and by far it's one of my worst as a non-casual touhou player. I did a normal run as reimu, and my first death was at the beginning of the 4th stage because of bad placement. I also had tons of silly deaths, and ended up beating remillia with only 1 life left, and I've 1cced this game on hard goddamn it. Lots of silly bombs, but I got some good bombs, so this turned out to be my best score on normal, huh.

Somebody else here. I stopped bombing on that part when I realized I needed every single bomb I could keep for lunatic mode. Skipping every possible moment where one would use master spark for points I managed to lunatic 1cc with one bomb left. Lunatic Scarlet Gensokyo is the scariest card when you actually seem like you have a chance of getting past it.
