'ne' is what's called a 'particle' - something used in Japanese sentences to indicate the relation between nouns and verbs, or (at the end of a sentence) function as an additional meaning for the sentence.

'ne' would roughly translate to 'isn't that right?' in English. Another one your friend might use is 'yo', kind of the opposite to 'ne', meaning roughly 'the previous statement is absolutely right'. It's kinda hard to translate literally.
