Character development will always be cut if you have to push all those hours of the VN in a couple of episodes.

The characters aren't that different. So far the only major difference I've noticed is that Mion=Shion which wasn't obvious in the anime.

It's still hinted in the anime in Meakashi-hen when Mion calls Shion "onee-sama", thus indicating she's the younger sister. But the revelation that they were switched happened through Shion's diary in the VN and adapting that in the anime would have been practically impossible. If they just said it in the end, without the buildup that exists in the VN through the TIPS it would have just seemed cheap.

My point. Keiichi got saved by ISDF because they were really looking for survivors. Satoko, on the other hand, came to the village at night, somehow appeared by the school and saw Banken shooting gas grenades into the school windows, if I am not mistaken. One of the main themes of Higurashi towards the end is that a miracle has to occur to change fate. It wouldn't really be a miracle if the club could easily defeat those grown adults. A 1/1000 kakera chance seems fitting.

The problem is that when you read Lambda's diary and accept that the person who had a wish to "always have her efforts come true" is in fact Hanyuu or Rika's mother of Saigoroshi-hen, and then think about the ways in which metaworld works, it really does feel like Higurashi is a game that the Takano piece plays with meta-Hanyuu. They are both supported by a 'certain will' granted by Lambda, but what makes Hanyuu win in the end is Bern's power.

I am not saying that in this case, Hanyuu's ingame spirit would be aware of this herself. It's just that she is generally suspicious - she follows people around and drives them L5, not to mention that strange behavioral pattern of always discouraging Rika when she should in fact try harder.

Because Rika's mother in Saigoroshi-hen is special in that she does not fail at life. And Rika 'felt Hanyuu' from her. That is because her mother actually does see Hanyuu - which is an entirely pointless theme, if not for the fact that she is to be killed by someone who is, for some reason, going to become a complete witch at the moment she does it. Then you see a happy and a completely Bern-less Rika in the hospital.
Hanyuu is not 'godly' at all. Supernatural, yes, but all that she can do is fly around, being connected(even physically, what a bother to a god) to one girl and drive people insane.

Also, Bern notes that Featherine always liked to tease her.

And the joke about the girl from Lambda's diary is that 'she created a witch and sent her to me'. The second girl should be of course Beato, but Lambda's wish was not "God, make me a god", she ended up on that wish after a long life and through a meeting which occured after she wished.

Excuse me for the Umineko thinking, but doesn't it make sense that Higurashi is between ΛΔ and Bern (meta-Rika). Featherine (Oyashiro-sama) is like the Beatrice of Higurashi.
