Just finished up Alo-Hello 4 and personally I am satisfied,
but no question it was a fluffy Alo-Hello. I had no problems with the activities they were doing like making cakes and jewelry but they decided to break up every small story portion into photo shoots.

And did this throughout the whole video, there wasn't even any poolside antics except for what seems to be after photoshoot off camera footage. You can't help but feel like this was essentially a making of for the entire DVD.

But still I loved the atmosphere and got plenty of my favorite girls in plenty of great bikinis. Clearly though, the people on the Hawaii FC tour got the best and most complete Musume Hawaii experience.

While I really loved the Sweet Black stuff, and while it was not spit shined to perfection by any means, the style of Fly Away really clicked with me ("Shit, this is the kind of music she should be writing and performing" etc.), as did the electronica / pop style of Electric Lover.
Queen Bee was also pretty damn catchy.

But I'm not really into this new style.
She's on the label Rhythm Zone so even if the record only sells 700 copies she won't be dropped; no matter what she does she does she will never be dropped. So I was thinking that they'd go more balls out with the material, because the stuff that has been presented so far has been very safe, very "standard J-pop".
I know that they promised "Maki Goto's return to traditional j-pop" but I was still expecting something with a bit more flair to it.

Still, I'll wait until I get to hear the full EP and then make my judgement then, it took me about 6 years to get into Converge's Jane Doe, it might take me more than a month to get into the style presented on ONE.

To be honest, I could never put a finger on what exact style Maki has been in pop, it has always seemed to jump all over the place. I think that is a good thing though.
For this type of style though I think that she better being really be bringing a strong voice, that or sound production boosts her levels a bit more.

While you are correct about Maki changing styles basically every fortnight I was expecting her to stay with the Sweet Black style.
Since Rhythm Zone was all about "urban contemporary" music, and since this was the style that H!P was ushering her towards, I thought that. She seemed comfortable with that.
Someone get some translator anon(s) on the horn and get them to translate that Nico live video she did with Max the other day. Find out if she talked some out this genre of music.

And she has a strong voice that works both live and on wax, thing is what I said before: I'm not into the style that Avex and Maki has adopted now. I was expecting something darker, and granted I haven't read any translated lyrics yet, but I would be a lying motherfucker if I said that I wasn't expecting something that was different from the 3 songs I've heard already from her comeback.
