Here is an example of a game in which the programmer is also the artist. Unless you are going for the "so absurdly bad it's good" look, I'd recommend either learning to draw or finding someone who can and who isn't going to charge you for his or her time as people with real drawing talent tend to be employed for their skills. I have training but little experience with software project management. One thing I can recognize that this project needs is deadlines for deliverables - especially for an anonymous effort.

How about we make a thread (here or on /v/?) on 3/15 to post first chapter writing samples and maybe art if anyone's brave enough to take a stab at it?

If we meet on the same date in an easily found thread whenever there are deliverables to check out or new phases starting, then anyone who's interested in the project will easily be able to keep up to speed on it.

Then you know, romance interlaced with tear jerking scenes like you accidentially take her to a romance movie where there's a dream scene. On set of dementia where she finds something you gave to her as a child but not remember it's significance and so crying while holding it. etc

ending has her dying and saying before she does that she will dream about you always

If you're actually gonna do this, you'd better have a kickass writer do some pretty fucking awesome stream of conscious stuff, yet manage to not sound too Tsukihime. This, "a paranoid schizophrenic Darks that meets a unhinged girl suffering from Fatal familial insomnia. She can't sleep, and becomes slightly more nuts every day." sounds like a pretty hard thing to pull off, and isn't something that can be done well by a mediocre writer.

I've had this idea for a long time about a man who can't stop seeing them, and at first, he only sees them near clocks, and they're pointing at the clock, and so on.

My suggestion is stay the fuck away from group organization, let a writer do his thing, and then find an artist/programmer if it ever gets that far.

Doesn't matter. At some point, someone is going to have to sit down and write the damn thing, and by someone I mean someONE, not some group. Someone's creative vision has to hold sway, whether or not he actually writes out all the text himself. If you're pretty much having everything constantly in the hospital all of the suffering may not have to be an illness at all. For brickshitting you could have it all be nothing more than a millitary experiment on psychological warfare with the main character and main girl as two of the test subjects. The ending could just be him finally breaking out of the hospital full of despair only to "break out" into a cold metal corridor full of white coats and millitary personal.

On another note I remember there being an anime just a few seasons ago. I can't quite remember the fucking name of it about some guy who was hospitalized for a chest infection or some shit and the nurse introduces him to a girl in his ward who has a weak heart. There was an old guy as well who gave the guy his porn mags, a nurse who drove around in a sports car and a doctor who was kind of an ass but wasn't. It's pretty much the premise of what's been suggested but without the insanity. Might be worth looking the series up just for some pointers but I thought it was somewhat tastefully done.

coder here, status update:
got enough volunteers for writers, need artists, musicians and editors (though editors can wait).

Current important questions are not so much manpower but more to do with the story itself.

Question 1: setting - Japan or not.

Japan - when you finally give in and make love to your little sister, she will be wimpering cries of 'ahhh... oniichan...' etc. Catch is since none of our writers are eleven, it will be much harder to write.

Outside japan - easier to write about, no oniichan.

For example, it's not possible to have visual and aural "illusions" at the same time, you can either hear something or see something, never both at the same time. The paranoia makes the person very anti-social but not a complete pariah, could be that in the VN the nutty girl can break him of his silence somehow for a plot...I dunno :P

Ah, you're talking about the genetic condition. It doesn't have to be what you suggested. An extreme case of insomnia could be induced from some horribly psychological trauma. Perhaps whatever happened has caused some sort of deep rooted, involuntary, irrational fear to take grip of the main female lead. Perhaps along the lines that she's afraid that when she closes her eyes she'll simply just dissapear. This in itself opens up a scene where main girl is going nuts throwing things around, smashing shit up screaming whilst squeezing her hands around your throat "Look at me! Keep looking at me so I don't dissapear!".

Wether it's going to be serious buisness or for the lulz most importantly this is going to be a kinetic novel story, and for these stories to be entertaining it'll need that little bit of freedom or leigh weigh to make it work.
