On reporting:

- Report only the first post in the thread. Subsequent posts in the same thread are a waste of your time and report juice.
- Report silently. Posting that you reported the thread may encourage onlookers to do the same thing, but more likely it will just encourage the OP to bump his thread.
- Report often. If you see a bad thread, don't just hide it. Report it first.

The problem is that while the janitor may not be active at that very moment, the troll OP most certainly is.
So you have a choice: either you silently report and trust that your fellow /jp/sies will do the same thing, or you take a chance, get the thread bumped, and maybe get swifter moderation.
Unless there's a flood, it's probably better safe than sorry.

I really have to disagree. Anyone who reports is a little annoyed, and with good reason. If you're so annoyed that you have to express it to the troll, then you're paying attention to him and that's all he really wants. Trolls feel victory for getting replies. The more replies, the more attention they have. If you don't reply, the troll will never know and feel like a failure, even if a million people read and reported his thread.

And on /jp/ people frankly sound really angry when they announce reports.

They are not here to hold your hand and mediate childish disputes about what you think is /jp/ material or not, or remove posts that express an opinion you don't like.

If you don't like the content of a thread, ignore it. If somebody is trying to troll for reaction, ignore it. Take a deep breath and relax. This is just an imageboard on the internet. If you don't like the current state of the board, go do something else for an hour or so.
