>> No.5386512

The setting is pretty cool too.

You are a heroic warrior from the PM world (Are there an awful lot of jobless retired legendary heroes in that world, or is it just me?) that apparently went to live on Earth for some reason. The magic world is undergoing a clusterfuck of a succesion war with even demons involved and the princess candidates are getting knocked off the good ole Roman style, so good ole Cube nabs one of the girls and brings her to you to protect her.

>> No.5386775

Correction, she's the last one. At least I read it somewhere, all the other candidates have been killed.

Also not giving this game a proper translation, leaving it as an interface translation would be a total waste.

This game deserve a proper translation, and it actually has a quite good cast of different characters and a real story for that matter.
If you leave it as an interface translation you would lose everything that had to do with the story, and the various character relations and their different progress depending on your actions.
What's the point of playing a game where you raise a girl, if you can't follow the character developement of her and the characters around her?
And it's a waste not to give the story a chance either, it just wouldn't feel right.

If a simple interface patch is released then I fear people will just leave it at that and go "it's playable, right?".

Just do a quick Goggle search and check the numbers, you will be surprised.

That and that nobody started a translation project for 4 or 5. Well, they did some petitions to get PM4 localized but those never work.
Anyway, this is a great idea for a translation project, best of luck getting a translator /jp/.

The PM2 daughter isn't bad I suppose, though PM4 is oddly the only blonde one... but I've grown an attachment to the PM5 one.

Also, instead of writing all these insightful comments, it's better (faster, easier) to translate as you see fit and leave small things to editors/testers.

Translations are to be edited, but the work can be made much easier by having vertain guidlines established from the beginning.

As for how to do this... The Baka-Tsuki model might work. Having someone do a rough translation and then someone else editing the shit out of it while bombarding the translator with questions to make sure everything's accurate.

This requires a pretty dedicated editing team though. The reason B-T novel translations fluctuate in quality so much is dependant on how anal relentive the editors are at cleaning after the translators, and how good they are at keeping consistency among themselves.

I'm not certain but I think he's using one of the mouseover boxes as an example. When your girl is in her room, you mouse over her and it tells you what she does.

Yes. We can replace these and there are no real alternatives anyway.

One more thing I noticed: lines 29e and 2a4 - You translated them both but only replaced the first one. in these cases you have leave the second one empty:

Milady is more "distant" than young lady if you ask me, Cube is supposed to be close family (even if he carries the role of a servant).

>>5394413
This one's a bit tricky.
I don't support "Milady" as the default term, but I could see it work in this situation.
Milady is of course polite, yet waking her up is a bit more "rough" so "close" "friendly/family"-ish terms aren't neccesarily optimal.

Basically, waking her up isn't "casual talk" and thus a term such as milady would work better, in other more casual situations I would believe "young lady" is more suitable.

It has quite a lot of english in it and has translated map locations, and most of the interface.
I might help with that later as I should be able to copy paste it into the games rather easily. (and I could also check the translation to some degree)

But just as you say, it's what probably is most vital, or at least most vital to most people.
And that's actually exactly why I am not so sure I like it, if everyone are satisfied with a partial patch, then I really believe they/we all miss out on something rather great.

PM5 is great and it has the potential to be the first Princess Maker game properly translated into english since PM2.
But yeah, it would require people to be devoted and simply not let go of the project, and most of all a real translator, we don't have one yet and we need one.

On Translation:

-Let's stop Vs Let's call it a day-

I like the second one better. Though if it's the catch-all "wandering time is up, go back home", I'd say "let's go home" sounds better.

-Yoroshiku-

I really don't think you'll get anything better than "Nice to meet you".

-Random crap-

1)http://tlwiki.tsukuru.info/index.php?title=Princess_Maker_5/text/sch/sc2201.txt
According to your notes and what I can make out, isn't 1af "You're learning to play the piano [[from mother]] too"?

2) Personal beef here, but I have a longstanding personal vendetta against the expression "can be seen" when it's used to say "something is there" and not actually talking about how something can be seen. For example, in 18b in 28.txt you have "the silhouette of a person can be seen in the terrace window", in which case it's okay since you are talking about seeing something, but when it's like in 371 in 20.txt ("Many students from the Shirasagi Academy can be seen."), it's less about seeing something (since it's an obvious presence) and more about just "[something] is here", for which English has the much more natural "there is/are" construction (E.g. There are many students from the Shirasagi Academy).

-In eb000.txt line 2a4 isn't translated.
-Same for 17a in eb010.txt
-I haven't touched it yet, but in es109.txt, I'm almost certain アシェット is either the french Assiette (Feminine noun, means dish or plate) or Hachette (Feminine noun, means hatchet. Also name of a famous bookstore). Does context give any hint as to which it is?
-I touched up inpcube.txt a bit, but they are still only minor phrasing tweaks (Occupations don't receive payment or do things, people with said occupation do).

That is a continuation of the previous line, I just didn't split the entire sentence between the two. See >>5422670, it makes a line break whenever you switch lines, but it will word-wrap the text so long as it's the same line. We'll have to do something about that.

>-Same for 17a in eb010.txt
That's because I wasn't quite sure what it means, so I didn't want to touch it.

>-I haven't touched it yet, but in es109.txt, I'm almost certain アシェット is either the french Assiette (Feminine noun, means dish or plate) or Hachette (Feminine noun, means hatchet. Also name of a famous bookstore). Does context give any hint as to which it is?

Well, it's transliterated as "Ashetto" (which is what I left it), so going on the pronunciation, it's probably Hachette, but the script itself doesn't really say anything other than that he is returning to France.

>Cube can actually tell if you chose a stupid name/surname? Seriously?

It would seem so, although I don't know which particular names trigger the line. Would be interesting to find out.

I agree with keeping the PM2 attribute names, they do the job just fine. No, "Musicanship" is not a word. Musical Talent would be the best bet, but if it's too long, just "Music" should do.

Makes me wonder if there's a way to keep this in translation... theoretically, there should be a list of words that the game checks against to see if it should return that response, it'd be just a matter of finding and editing it.

The best bet there would be to ask AoRF, since he made the tools for the extraction/insertion in the first place.

Speaking of which, I have some (possibly) bad news. First off, in quite a few of these scenes, the text is split between 2-3 seperate files, which is making things difficult when translating because half of the conversation is in a different file. Secondly, the extraction program may not be getting all of the files, or the insertion may not be working correctly. In the image I posted, that line is not from the same script as the rest of the text. In fact, that line does not even fully appear in any of the text files, but the second half only appears once in all of the text files. I've replaced the line and re-inserted the text, but it's still not showing up here as translated. The same happens with another line in another script file (not posted yet). It is the only occurence of "(うん?)”, but replacing it does not actually replace it in game. (Also noticed another place that it does this while typing this message). So, AoRF, if you're still around, please look into this. You can find the "(うん?)” example in ef016.txt, and the corresponding event should take place before the girl's first day of school.

I was going to post two more scripts, but since inserting the first one showed me that I'm missing about 50% of the conversation in another file, I'm going to wait until tomorrow to post it. In the mean time, here's the other one.

Yeah, this is why I didn't want to upload scripts to wiki. I stripped down the criteria for choosing what to extract to something very simple, so this time I think I got it right. ee0000 got 1.5 as big. Grab text here and just replace files: http://no-info.no-ip.info:6224/pm5/princess-maker-5-text-1.6.rar . In unlikely case you want to extract scripts with tools yourself, delete .first and info.mk files before running runme.bat to force tools to regenerate scripts. Text that doesn't have kanji/katakana/hiragana won't be extracted also.

Here are prohibited words:
おまんこ
おめこ
きんたま
ちんこ
ちんぽこ
ちんぽ
マンコ
オマンコ
オメコ
キンタマ
チンコ
チンポコ
チンポ

They are hardcoded into executable, so we can easily change them, although this won't help much since I still haven't figured out how to enable non-fullwidth character input.

... and what does きんたま mean?
