Every KEY work is slice of life bullshit with magic thrown in to make some of the heroines more interesting. KEY works are drawn poorly (compare to nitro+), the plots are rehashed (Fuuko), and compared to other VNs, they lack structure. Its worth noting that there is no porn, but eroscenes in other VNs are either bland, or hillariously bad(mollusks) - yeah thats a push. KEY hate stems from Kyoani hate. Clannad hate comes from that fucking 10 episode snorefest that was the Fuuko route:

I stopped watching Air and Kanon about halfway through. Clannad was good, Planetarian was good, that's all the Key experience I have.

Most of /a/ and /jp/ seem to think Air and Kanon are shit due to retard moe and LOL MIRACLES, and thought the same of Clannad until the game translation came out and they discovered that there isn't nearly as much of the shit that made Air and Kanon such fail in it outside of the arc that the animu decided to start with (and because of Sunohara.) Planetarian gets by due to the same reason (less retard, more moe, no fantasy/miracle bullshit, just BAWWW ending.)

For some reason Key stuff just didn't wind up having the staying power of Type-Moon's works (ie Clannad threads died out after the anime finished and the after story translation came out,) probably because Key's works are two good things in a sea of fail and shit we know little about, whereas everything TM does is considered to be good by most of the community here, decreasing the sagefaggotry in the threads about it.

The reason TM is so present in /jp/ and pretty much everywhere actually is that:
-It managed to create a very big following even before the VNs were translated for some reason.
-Very big amount of fanwork(doujin) and Melty Blood
-POWERLEVEL games/anime/manga will always generate lots of discussion no matter what, same reason that something like say Bleach gets lots of discussion.

Clannad or Planetarian are very self contained, there's nothing much to discuss about them but it doesn't mean they are better or worse than the TM games.

I'm pretty sure, something like Planetarian or Clannad was trolled sometimes but never outright hated.
