Ok, I know /jp/ hates recommendation threads and I saw two in the past hour turn to shit storms. But consider this an exception (I'll delete the thread after a bit anyway).

I am trying to find all or any VNs that have a science fiction setting. Everything I've played is modern day or historical, or some slight variation. Fairly generic and repetitive. I've scoured around and have not had much luck - it seems like the Japanese aren't into sci-fi.

In return, absolutely nothing (maybe some cool space pictures).

Muv-Luv, Baldr sky--Japanese in general and VNs specifically don't have the same sorts of hard and fast genre boundaries that western fiction does.

Sharin no Kuni is science fiction in the social sense, like 1984. If you mean like far future or something, they rarely do that in VNs. Maybe ever 17 and its ilk? Hard SciFi isn't really a good setting for romance.

One shameful bump, then I'll let this die.

Compared to the west it seems not quite as much. What is the Japanese equivalent of Star Trek? Star Wars? Babylon 5?

inb4 Star Wars is Japanese

Anyway OP, Critical Point (I assume you're looking for English)

Yeah it's not like mecha is very popular over there or anything.

Sekien no Inganock seems kind of sci-fi.

And then there's Galaxy Angel, but I'm not sure if that's any good.

>>5346639

I wouldn't compare Sharin to 1984. It's not nearly dark and hopeless enough.

Did I compare it to 1984 in terms of anything but the fact that it is a look at an alternate society?

Regardless, there are tons of scifi VNs and tons of scifi in otaku culutre in general. It's not that much like western hard scifi, so is that what you're really asking?

Hey...chill out aspie, don't you think I tried that? vndb is not the most accurate place. I know of two VNs that should be listed under sci-fi that aren't anywhere to be found.

I don't really consider mecha to be sci-fi. It's kind of its own genre.

Thanks to the rest of you.

Kikokugai the Cyber Slayer.
Combines Kung Fu action with cyborgs, mind data dumping and shit like that.

The main character is the last fully human internal kung fu dude and can compensate by converting qi into fucking EMP waves that insta-kill cyborgs with one touch.
