A lot of foreigners say that Japan should stop using Kanji.
Those people should be forced to translate a Japanese book written exclusively in Romaji into English and get a piece of their genitals cut off for every sentence they misinterpret.

This.

The world really needs a new, superior language for everyone to learn in this time of cultures growing closer together.

>> No.5334626

They should just drop them and make an actual phonetic system and more words.

Kana make a whole lot more phonetic sense than the orthography of English.

Why does it need to be new? English is a superior language that lots of people speak already, so we should just have everyone learn English and we'd be done. Only problem is that France would never accept anyone using anything other than their own precious language, but we can just wall them off and leave them to fester in isolation, I mean its not as if anyone besides other French people would want to talk to the French.

What makes you say that?
Sure, English isn't pretty, but it's pretty damn flexible. You can say sentences backwards and people will still be able to figure out what you're saying. There's only three articles, and two of them are interchangeable if a bit silly sounding. English absorbs loanwords more rapidly than any other language.

The only real strike against English is that due to the great vowel shift, it's not phonetic at all. With enough work, that could be fixed.

We're letting Chinese and Japanese and Brazilian internet to foster on their own language as well. The result is lolwacky niconico memes in Japan, and delicious Big Brother's Great Firewall in China.

Korean should be new world language. Easy to read, easy to learn. No stupid Kanji shit. Korea got with the program and dropped that retarded mess of a language a long time ago, seriously. It's easier than English because Korean actually makes sense all the time unlike English (Island, Deer). And Kanji is just unnecessary. Like a million characters while Korea just does it in like 24.

I love how OP thinks that it's impossible for Japanese to completely do away with kanji. Then riddle me this: how come all the JRPGs (a genre notorious for being exceptionally text heavy) prior to the SNES era were written in nothing but kana?

because the game environment provides additional context clues and the language used in those is nothing but everyday stuff anyway.
Has nothing to do with actual literature. Japs wouldn't even be able to talk if it were any different.

>> No.5335035

Because they were games meant for children. By approving of the removal of kanji, you're encouraging a country to convert their written language into a babytalk version.

>> No.5335045

also, this >>5335031 of course. I thought that would be obvious, but it might not be.
Also, from what I've played, NES-era JRPGs were a lot less text-heavy than SNES games.

>> No.5335080

I play Japanese Pokémon entirely in kana. It works okay, but anything more complicated than that wouldn't. Games and manga are one thing, entirely text-based things like books or newspapers with complicated language would be impossible without kanji. Unless you want to stop reading every 10 seconds to reread the last paragraph ten times and try to guess what word the author was looking for.
