If you read the final line of the final Seals Club story, Maribel asks Renko if she would go to Gensokyo if she could find a cheaper way to go there by train, and she implies that she knows.

It's meant to hint that Maribel's power of simply seeing borders has matured to have her finally be able to create borders and port around, and then when she finally ports to Gensokyo, the stories end because...SHE BECOMES THE MOTHERFUCKING YUKARI.

So what it's trying to say is that the stories came to a conclusion because Mary's powers changed (which in turn caused her to become Yukari etc)? If it is, then that doesn't make any sense. We already know that the stories ended, regardless for what reason it ended. it doesn't "explain" anything, it's just one way to interpret it.

I can agree that this is a cool fantheory with a lot of effort put behind it, and I wouldn't bash any fanworks based on this theory.

But the amount of people that just go "OMG I SEE THE LIGHT NOW, THIS IS THE TRUTH" sort of makes me buttmad.

Actually, this so much.

I agree there's a clear symbolical relation between Maribel and Yukari, and given they have similar powers it's not that odd at all. But I prefer to see it like that: a simple, symbolical reference between two similar characters.

Also >>5312309 makes me sad. The endings of both 53 Minutes and Magical Astronomy felt to me as if they were leaning in positive regard to Maribel and Renko's friendship rather than, "I leave you now, become youkai" douchebaggery.
