Well, In both Higurashi and Ever17 it had foreshadowing and could very well be guesses. The thing is that Ever 17 later used said technology to do scientifically ridiculous things(claiming that transcending timespace=moving freely in it, physical immortality without strong ass metabolism, Breathing 120 meters underwater because he is lolimmortal). Higurashi, on the other hand pulled a completely possible though ridiculous happy end (to top it with a troll plusdisc).
