I was into arcade-style shmups a bunch of years back. Eventually I found out about touhou, tried the games out and really liked them. Discovering the music and fanart made me even more into it.

Well, the first time I even heard about Touhou, was when I heard kumikyoku. Well, I didn't pay attention to it too much. Then I saw the flashes. I thought; Ya, pretty cool. But still didn't care much. But, Abunai Sisters somehow got me playing. My first game was "Scarlet Weather Rhapsody," sucked. Then "Unidentified Fantastic Object." At the moment, I have all official Touhou games. I think. My all time favorite now is "Imperishable Night."

I would always see it on /jp/ but i never had any interest in the fandom or the games so i just tried my best to ignore it. Then one day i just cracked, i think it was after seeing the Bad Apple video and decided to download EoSD to see what /jp/ was shitting themselves over. I fell in love with the series despite having retard fingers and now i enjoy the games and fanon in equal quantities.

I've been a fan of bullet-hell games for a few years before I got into Touhou. Anyway, last year, I was stuck on one stage of Ikaruga, so I decided to watch a video of the stage on YouTube to see how to beat it. I saw a clip of PoFV gameplay in the related videos. The game looked fun, so I decided to research the Touhou games. I downloaded IN, got addicted, and one series later, here I am.

By browsing /jp/. Obviously, it was present on many other boards before the split, so I was slightly aware of it, but always thought it didn't concern me, except for acknowledging that "that shrine maiden" had attractive armpits.

Of course, by the time I came to /jp/, it felt like I had been living in a shoebox for the past 5 years.

I remember watching the original Chiru Miru video in 2007. I then remember the Mcrolled, and got into other U.N. Owen Mixes. Then my friend FIERCELINKMASTER(76 at the end on his youtube page) Got me into it. My favorite thing about it is well....lets just leave that Yuri can bring me lots of joy. My Favorite character is Letty Whiterock.

I used to mostly browse /g/ and had seen some images of touhou, tough I didn't know it at the time.
Anyways, people started posting touhou hijacks and it got me interested, but not so much.
Till the day someone posted an image of meimu, supposedly she was caring and forgiving, or so I was led to believe when I asked /a/ about who she was.

Back in the day I'd see Touhou on /a/ and end up saving tens of images without knowing exactly what they were from. A friend had a bunch of music he played on a road trip, and when asked he said it was from a shmup series called Touhou. At a LAN party another friend told me about this "really crazy" game series called Touhou, and gave me a copy of Imperishable Night. The shift from knowledge to induction was when I started frequenting pixiv for a project on /a/, and ended up getting ~4,000 images over the course of three months, then subsequently researching the names, background, and story of each character so I could properly identify and tag them.

I originally learned about it from bad apple and the pics or Reimu in various places. Eventually I downloaded PCB, played it for a little while, and then stopped. A few months ago I found it again, got into it, and downloaded all of the games. It's now my main method of relaxation in between programming.

This thread has made me realize that touhou is my new pokemon, and that brings me great sadness because whenever I think of pokemon I think of wasted neurons that could have been used for more useful knowledge than the name of ewach and every single pokemon, their types, weaknesses, and that Flareon is(or was?) the pokemon with highest attack rating.

What is this I don't even.

No-idea-how-long ago, I came to /jp/ and saw some threads about it. Then I saw one about the actual gameplay rather than the characters and figured I'd check it out.
Downloaded EoSD, tried it and gave up. A month or so later I downloaded PCB and 1cc'd it (on Easymodo - AHAHA) within a week or two.
I'm now pretty close to 1cc-ing EoSD. Of course I still suck.

First exposure was Ran Ran Ru. At the time, I didn't know it was a Touhou song, and I didn't particularly care.

Then, while on one of my infrequent shmup kicks, I found a blog post extolling Mountain of Faith while I was looking for new games to play.

I lost interest.

Then, in the pursuit of other activities, I found myself sufficiently exposed to Touhou materials to want to find out more about the series. Then I re-downloaded MoF (translated this time) and got back into it. When I found myself failing badly at it, I downloaded the rest of them so I could take turns failing at each of them.

And now I'm here.

I stumbled upon some IOSYS videos without actually realizing that was touhou, then finally found a bad apple video with the name of every character on the description.

Then touhou wikia + character themes on youtube, followed by challenging attempts to beat EoSD on normal without ever playing a shmunp before

/jp/ told me and gave me a site to download EoSD off of, along with the Touhou wiki for an english patch. I got the rest of the games on my own. After getting up to Mountain of Faith I got more involved in the "culture" and such.

Randomly found a video of a Mokou run in Imperishable Night on Youtube and was fascinated at the bullets. First game because of that video was IN and Mokou's theme has always been one of my favorites because of it as well.

Was linked to U.N. Owen through a different site, listened, thought it was cool. Realized it was the same series that Marisa Stole the Precious Thing was from, which I'd seen a bunch of shit traces of. Googled, wondering why it was so popular, read the wiki about the games, torrented eosd.

At the age of 7, I was playing Einhänder on the playstation. I then tasked my parents to find me an appropriate related game, and my dad showed me Touhou 6 - Koumakyou on the PC. Later, I'd found out about the culture of Touhou on the internet. Since I was 9 - 6 years ago, I was enjoying Touhou artwork and music.

06. People talking about it on /a/. Played EoSD. Quickly grew to love everything about it. pretty typical story.

It was right here on 4chan. Can't recall which board, most likely /a/, got the games sometime in 07 or 08 but only after a big Touhou thread on /v/ in February 09 I decided to actually play them starting with EoSD.

I fucking fell in love with it. Did all the games in order and it felt awesome. Today I've moved on from it a bit, my Windows 7 has big graphical glitches with it (makes older games like EoSD and PCB practically unplayable) and today I'm playing too much TF2 to dedicate serious score runs in Touhou, but it's fun to play it here and there. I especially love playing PoFV with other players, if anyone is interested add me on steam, id is on the email field.

Then one day I stumbled onto an LP of Super Marisa World , which I decided to watch because I was bored. After I watched some of it, I decided to look into touhou and try out the actual games for myself. (now that I think about it, it's kinda weird how my interest sparked from a fan game...)

Watching random youtube videos I found those clips of the touhou soccer special move animations. Reading the wikipedia article I learned it was shmup. Since I was interested in shmups I downloaded it back when Doujinsoft didn't use to be only a forum. First game was six. Despite the touhou soccer videos being what got me interested I've never actually played them since I'm not really interested in Soccer or sports games in general.

My friend was obsessed with Touhou, they wouldn't shut up about it. So I ask them what is touhou, and they're like It's a really cool game from Japan that I like, to which I said where can I download it.
