Testing for Episode 2

It's almost been a full year since the release of episode 1, and I finally have an update for everyone. Episode 2 will be released shortly and we need a few new testers to help test the script.

Everyone's probably been wondering why it's taken so long. To be honest, it's staff issues. We currently only have one part-time video editor on the team to do overlays, and there are about 500 for episode 2 that needed work. After a discussion with the rest of the staff, we thought it best to add subtitles for the initial release and change to overlays whenever it's finished. This decision will affect episode 3 onwards. As of right now I'm timing and adding the necessary subtitles for that.

They're only related by setting and some sub-characters (the 'rival' cafe in Parfait is a branch of the cafe 'Curio' that Chocolat is set in). I played Parfait first, personally, and even after playing Chocolat later I don't feel I got anything more out of Parfait.

Overlays are those you see in episode 1 when they were passing notes back and forth, subtitles is the text that's on the bottom of the screen.

The main advantage of overlays is we're able to put everything on screen without interfering with dialogue. Due to limitations with the subtitle and game engine we're limited to 2 lines of text and obviously when onscreen text collides with spoken dialogue, the latter has the right of way.

I'll detail the change in a future post.

Actually its 99.4%, the remaining percent is just one of Ran Route Blocks (a big one too).

Of course EDITED is a completely different subject, its at 68%, considering how long it been stuck in the mud until TinFoil gets around to do it (in 2056) or they get a editor that actually DOES WORK.

A few corrections to your post: Insani were the ones who translated Wind. NNL did the editing. That's when ~1/4 of the lines were removed because they made the script clunky or some shit. There used to be a huge explanation on their site before it went offline. One particular scene they mentioned was Minamo's confession scene where many of the lines were just "hammering" details into your head that were mostly unneeded. IIRC another example was, when there were a lot of people present, EVERYONE had to greet each other individually so it took much longer than needed just for everyone to say hi.

Well.. Ixrec has on occations messed up and "translated" certain lines into more or less the opposite of the original line and other critical translation errors, I don't think it can really be compared to the "man you know" thing that actually still made sense to a certain degree in context.

But other than that all I knew of TLWiki comments on Ixrec's translations was that he shouldn't have speed translated his works, especially considering the level of his skill when he started.
Otherwise I thought TLWiki said that people should go easy on Ixrec as he showed promise and was learning.

I am not saying this translation is good, but you are aware it would look awkward if translated literally, right? You don't usually "sigh" like that mid sentence in english. "Man, you know" might not have been good but something along the lines of "you know" should have been it.
You can make use of foreign words in your translation as loan words (though it's no excuse for not translating), but you can't make use of lines that phrases that is interpreted differently by different cultures.

And Ixrec has improved, but you can't really beat mistakes such as translating
"Perhaps I should visit you sometime"
into "Perhaps you should visit me sometime".
"Minor" details yes, but a significant error nonetheless.

I don't really have to check Chikan. I joined as TLC mainly to look at the J->C->E side since some of it was quite a mess. I'm checking his more like as a bonus. The reason he doesn't want to translate anymore probably has more to do with motivation rather than skill. He simply doesn't seem to enjoy it very much. I mean it is a painstaking process, can't expect to carry on if it's like pulling teeth to you. I can say fairly confidently that Chikan now at the least can't be any worse than me when I did Sharin. I was fucking awful then. I apologize. Really. When translators are starting out, they're not really familiar with what English to use with what Japanese so they tend to run away to literal, which is what I did. Of course, no one will ever realize that thanks to editing anyway. Moogy hid my shittiness and is now taking the heat. Thanks!

And Ixrec had his problems but, he was fairly new to the language, he jumped in there and started, translates like a fucking machine, and the best way to improve your skills is to get more translation experience. If he continues at this rate, naturally he'll improve dramatically over the course of time and may probably even go on to become the single biggest contributor to the community as far as number of games go. Chikan wasn't really irritated at his mistakes, but more so at his apparent inability to admit them. And that's an integral part of getting better, knowing when you mess up. Chikan just went a little overboard, is all.
