Does /jp/ play Eternal Fighter Zero?

I guess some of you do, since it's a doujin game, the character roster is mostly composed of girls from VNs, and seeing the popularity of the other Tasofro games here (IaMP and Hisoutensoku).

PRO MASHING LEAGUE: MASH EDITION

Hi again there alphabet, you sure are fun as shit to play against. So many moments, my god.
That one finish where you caught me in a super a few seconds after I used L-Range Mio's 236C then OUT OF NOWHERE the arrow flies out in the middle of it and ended the round has to have been the greatest fightan finish I've ever seen, haven't laughed that hard in years.

Oh man, I love this game so much because it's actually possible to dick around in due to its age. Nobody wants to tourneyfag this shit anymore so there's no pressure on how well you do; it really is a wonderful feeling.
That said, using Sayuri still makes me feel really really terrible because it doesn't seem like most characters can do shit against her, generally speaking. But hey, I main Nu.

Aw well, GGs bro. Maybe I'll host again in a little while.

And maybe an old doujin game scene can arise out of this, including VagPov and such. We never know.

Anyway, keep working at it until you can keep my dumb bitch from wallslamming you. She's weak to crossup, just fyi.

Wasn't me, just to confirm here. I've seen all the negative effects of dropping the S-bomb in fightan threads and don't want it to happen again in one I actually like.

That said, pulling anything off in that ping is pretty silly because specials turn into supers constantly and vice versa; plus 6321463214A? Never fucking happening. I swear I tried like 50 times and the only one of those in which it actually worked was a random from fullscreen when I didn't expect it to. At least my beloved fullscreen grab is only really useful as a hitconfirm from 5C, so even if the input gets dropped I still hit you with a fucking piledriver.
BUT I've played entire matches of this at 8 fps though, so I'm not complainin'.

As advice, try using 2A after your wallslam->dash->dash thing so it's a high-low mixup instead of a high-mid not-so-mixup.

>> No.5097967

>>5097643
Well alright, GGs. I was thoroughly convinced there was only one actual player besides myself who ever lurked the corridors of /jp/ these days.
And with that one other player being EU, it feels pretty shameful that I'm still letting the ping turn my 236s into 623s and vice versa, but that's something that may improve with time.

But still pro as ever, I see. I'm gonna need to take Mio lessons from you again some other time, maybe snatch that aircombo like I did with everything Magister used in SWR, hurrhur or something.
I'd want to start maining her as much as possible when these shitty old doujin fightan netplay threads pop up because I just hate the feeling of being able to mash out 41236C to get out of anything.
Speaking of which, the flow of ICs is starting to make more sense especially considering how it's not so much different from other fightans, but with Sayuri when am I supposed to be doing it? I thought it'd be a cool idea to IC in the middle of a blocked wallslam but uh, you saw how well that turned out. Guess I'll get the hang of it after a while.

>>5097909
>try using 2A after your wallslam->dash->dash thing
>try using 2A
>2A

Spoken like a true Meltan player. But I'll keep it in mind, thanks; I figured doing it like that would be a bit too obvious so I'd try to mixup into something less predictable, but maybe I'll switch around so that can work on occasion.

Ah well, thanks a bunch for the games, beautiful learning experience.
And you have a wonderful night, /jp/.

>> No.5098025

>>5097967
I just steal combos from the japs anyway so take them, they're not mine.

>with Sayuri when am I supposed to be doing it? I thought it'd be a cool idea to IC in the middle of a blocked wallslam but uh, you saw how well that turned out.
This is good if you delay the IC slightly after a Recoil Guarded wallslam or 623A. Reason being that the opponent will most likely try to counter attack. IC it, look at the reaction in the small time you have, if it looks like they're counter attacking, 2141236 it, always wins out. If they're not, continue with Sayuri's not so good pressure anyway or run.
Other than that, save it up for blue IC and learn some good combos, like the 623C IC combo.

>Spoken like a true Meltan player
More like 2A actually hits low. You could use 5B as well since it's the only other low-hitting move Sayuri has.
>I'd try to mixup into something less predictable,
While I certainly wasn't expecting 5A, it makes it no less harder to block.

Pick it up, be a flaming casual and have fun. This isn't MvC2, it's not an old game that people still play just so they can completely dominate newscrubs. Everyone who was actually good at it disappeared long ago because there's no serious tournament scene or anything.
Start playing, pick a loli, mash some buttons. Worst thing that could happen is that you'll lose matches, in which case you can find it hilarious how stupid the thing you did that lost you the match was. I know I do that all the time.

Inb4 fightan tourneyfag comes in and claims that only scrubs play games for fun. Again.

Oh no no no, this isn't a popular game, there are at most 5 players that actively play this in the entirety of /jp/ and finding more than one online at any given time is ridiculously unlikely. You'll more than likely end up waiting 7 hours or more for a connection so turn your volume up and go make a sandwich or something.
In fact, you could probably run a deli and complete an entire day's work before you get a connection while hosting, that's how quickly you're going to find somebody here. No, really.

I'd play you but now I have a bunch of shit running and the last time I tried that it just plain crashed before getting to the start menu.
Best of luck though, anon. Also it may not be a bad idea to clarify what version of the netplay client you're using to prevent crashes.

>>5098416
What most will say is an exaggeration, it's not that bad.
I get 60+ fps from anything under 200 ping and still about 40 or so from US-EU, which isn't bad at all. In the latter case sure, there are a bunch of input drops and inputting 623 to see it turn into 236 and vice versa is a common thing, but it's nothing ridiculous and desync doesn't seem to happen as often as other fightan netplays, especially the godawful early builds for LunaPort. Which says a lot considering this is supposedly still in beta or whatever, not that anyone will ever care to update it. ;_;

>>5098421
As you may notice in >>5097618 and subsequent posts, the fs5 version is better for ironing out lag so if you crash immediately upon the game opening then your opponent's probably running that one. It's a good idea to have both handy, sure, but I can assure you that you'll run into players using fs5 more often.
I think.

Typical caster format, cut-paste the contents of the folder you extracted into your EFZ folder. Or copypaste/drag-drop, whatever floats your boat I guess.
After that you can edit the lang_0 file to change your playername and all that shit; don't forget to change where it says 'communication port' if the host says they're hosting on a specific port besides 88, or if you're the host and you decide 88 is a shit port and you'd rather go with something that looks cool like 6666. Done so soon, Alphabet?
GGs then, hot damn you gave my Mayu a hard time; keep in mind that I'm not only fishing for approaches constantly - ie. waiting for you to whiff something so I can safely march in there and punch your face in - but I fish for RGs too in close range, just so I can buffer a command grab. I fucking love this game and its 41236 command grabs.

Plus, taking DamageDesu's advice to 2A after wallslamming was hella efficient but jesus christ it makes me feel like a huge asshole. To counteract that feeling, every time you get wallslammed BLOCK LOW ON WAKEUP. If you do that the worst I can do is mash 2A a bunch of times then mash out another wallslam in hopes that you've stopped blocking.
Well, I guess that's not the WORST thing I could do, but that's the worst I probably ever will do unless I were to become a tourneyfag or something. Which will not happen here.

>>5101378

GGs, but as you can see I'm not the super tourneyfag god the lengths of my paragraphs more than likely imply; still had a lot of fun laughing at my dumb mistakes, though. I got so pampered on opponents that just let themselves get wallslammed left and right that I almost forgot players exist that actually, you know, block it. Rushdown and crossup, major weak points of mine, I'll need to work on them very much so. That and, uh, actually learning aircombos; tossing with a command grab then jumping without knowing what to do just looks really, really silly. It feels as silly as it looks, too.

GGs Tree. Can't seem to do the Mio combos I want, so I gave up, sorry. But in any case, Mio should be switching between far and close ranged pretty much all the time. The recovery time on change is fast, and you can save it for after big recovery moves so you can make your attacks safe. Close range 236236 is on oki only, IC it to be safe and pressure while the pots are falling, 214214 is only for high damage combos if you happen to learn them. Far range has some weird combos but all of them require switching to close range midcombo, so get used to using the D button.

Your Sayuri is getting better, but when I said 623 I actually meant 623A. I guess 623B works too sometimes. Now if you could mix up the dash->dash hi-low mixup with throws or her EX throw, it'd be even better. Sayuri doesn't have much in the way of mixups, so you have to work with what little you have.

That crash was my bad, sorry about that. Client's rehosting but I'll go ahead and start typing a long GG message anyway.

First off, FUCK YOU I DON'T WANT STARS I WANT WALLSLAM
THIS FUCKING GAME

Now that I got that out, I think there's some slim chance I may be getting somewhere with your Mio lessons and such; what I've learned thus far is j.5B 66 j.5B j.5C~ whatever and to not use 214A/B/C in S-mode because it's trash, as well as to use 623A/B/C sparingly because it's also trash besides occasional use as a DP. I swear tasofro only put that shit there to fuck up players trying to do Indiana Jones so that everybody else has a chance against tourneyfag Mios. I swear EVERY FUCKING TIME I'd input 236 and get that instead, it's like a free 50%.
Speaking of which, in those first few matches did you really do like 30% with just chip damage? REALLY? That shit had me yelling at my screen, I knew there was a chance to mash a wallslam or something after because I blocked the super then the screen started fading. In fact, all those got pretty vocal, but I guess that just means you're a good player.

Thanks for the games if you're done, DD. Valuable experience blah blah blah I think I'll just go ahead and rehost anyway. Also remind me later and I'll make a Sayuri flowchart filled with 'wallslam' assuming it doesn't exist already.

Rehostan.

>not use 214A/B/C in S-mode
It's extremely situational, but at least the EX version is comboable.
>use 623A/B/C sparingly
There's a nice thing with her 623 if you delay it after, say, 663C. Cancel time is large, so you do DP if you expect them to mash out of your slide, it'll usually catch them.

>Speaking of which, in those first few matches did you really do like 30% with just chip damage?
Nope. This is one of Kaori's specials which is unblockable. 2 hits, doesn't matter if you block or RG the first, the 2nd will hit. Only way to get out of it is: 1) don't get hit by it or 2) RG the first hit and use some invincible special, works sometimes.

>> No.5102230

>>5102205

>I guess 623B works too sometimes.
Right, 623A is for approaches. 623B I try to hitconfirm into IC wallslam, and it's safe on block because I can just ditch the IC and do whatever. At least, that's normally how it goes. Also those 236A+jump-in high-low mixups are fucking sick, if I remember I'll start using those a hell of a lot more often.

>Close range 236236 is on oki only
Or never at all if I can help it, but at our ping the inputs love reading that from 236B 236A, as in the whip drag-in. More than likely I'm just mashing it out too fast because I can guarantee I'm not watching the buttons too much. Hurr durr, there's one more thing to work on.

>214214 is only for high damage combos if you happen to learn them.
Oh yeah, I know those, only half of the problem is the ping and the other half is that I just draw blanks in the middle of actual matches and forget what I was doing, which is actually a lot of my problem in not just fightan but ordinary mundane tasks. But you know, that's a story for another time.

>Far range has some weird combos but all of them require switching to close range midcombo, so get used to using the D button.
Can do, sir. Those switch combos are weird as fuck, but I'll work with them.

Until next time.

Goddamn, there are so many moments I wish I could bring up but each one got replaced by a better one until eventually by the end it was pretty painfully obvious that we'd started dicking around and playing characters we normally don't use -- I was hoping you'd get my hint to do a Kanna mirror for shits and giggles but apparently you didn't so I had to do it on my own, hurrhurr, sorry about that. I'd heard all the rumors that she wasn't changed from her boss version and was banned from tourneyfag play but I had yet to actually see her in action besides arcade mode. Durp.

Holy fuck, that was what, 3 hours? I think it's about time for a break now, but thanks a bunch for the games, friend. I'll never forget them, nor will I ever forget the fact that I got less than 200 ping for once; remind me next time and I'll set the delay to 4 so maybe we can get 60+ fps instead of 50-55. Anyway! GGs, friend, I probably would've disappeared after a couple more if you hadn't because I have had waaaay too much of this for today, great underrated fightan or not. One question, though: 'Duck' doesn't by chance imply Duckator, does it? You know, just curious.

And not to be coaching or anything, but while a bunch of those matches got pretty intense and you do know what you're doing for the most part, you really really need to work on being a lot more patient from what I can tell. Plenty of times rounds would finish because you'd keep going after moves were block while I was just fishing for a chance to reversal, and let's not even go into that round with Kano where every spell hit and I had plenty of time to normal-recharge every one of them. Sure, I can't say a whole lot for myself getting hit by that Last Memory (which was awesome both times, I might add) but overall I got away with a bunch of things that I shouldn't have.

GGs, love. To be able to do that kind of nonsense after only have played for a few minutes, you'll be fine in this wonderful wallslam world of ours.
Of course, you'll need to build up that wallslam tolerance a little more, but the best way to do that is to just rub up against a wall for hours at a time; do it while playing, too, for best results. Slam yourself into that wall so hard that it leaves a dent in the shape of your figure, that's how you know you're becoming resistant to wallslams.
In actuality, though, the only way to get out of Sayuri wallslam bullshit is to guess mixup and, truth be told, you've figured that out a hell of a lot faster than most have.

Keep up dat grapplan, maybe even try out some more of the cast and find someone else you like if you can, etc etc. Also I couldn't pull off that level 3 UNKNOWN super on you either, so that says something. Actually it's luck-based, so all it says is that you're lucky, but you know, you don't have to think too much into that. I mean really, I don't even like the character, I just like that one super. It's the best fucking thing ever.

AND have a great day, maybe I'll rehost sometime soon. Actually I might just rehost now.

This game is weird. Regular throws are absurdly difficult to execute properly, and command throws have a big enough wind-up that they're almost impractical too. 2A mashing actually seems sorta strong in this game.

I'm used to something like Guilty Gear where you can do silly stuff like wake-up throw or air-throw people out of attacks. Eventually I'll get the timing for Doppel down and do a full grab chain, though; I can only get as far as the beat-your-face-into-the-pavement part.

>> No.5112924

>>5112838
Hardly anybody except Guy is at a tourneyfag level in this, so there's nothing to worry about. There are a few who are pretty gdlk but even they are bros and won't completely rape you over and over, they'll get the hint that you're new and switch shit around to keep it fun. Because this game has no real tournament scene anymore considering how old it is, there really is no "baaaawww I want to play this but I'm not good enough." In fact, it's more likely that there'd be a "baaaaawwww I'm too good, everybody hates me" as opposed to the former. And there isn't. Yet.

>>5112861
Speaking of which, where's that anon who used to always post one of those 'fascinating' reaction images every time I posted a paragraph in VagPov/soku threads? That dude was awesome.

>>5112890
Sayuri, Mayu, and Doppel all have command grabs to make shit a little more bearable, as well as a few others who I think I'm forgetting. A few characters - Mayu included - have airthrows as well, though those really are just as absurdly hard to pull off as ground throws are.
Hell, I respect you for playing a grappler in this game, I'd love to see you actually get somewhere with it. Good luck.

>>5113610
Yeah, I was wondering what was causing the fluctuating fps there; I looked and can't see anything it could've possibly been on my end. It fucked shit up hard because it would drop from ~60 to 20 fps in the middle of an input and drop half of it, which was baaaad since it liked doing that while I was trying to get out of corner pressure a lot. I'm sure it had some quarrels with you, too, so nothing of value was lost. Wish I knew what the hell it was though.

Either way, GGs 'ator, you've improved a hell of a lot in the past day, namely by, you know, learning how to block. Wallslam bullshit was much harder to pull off and magic-spamming was smalltime, I actually had to work to get things done. You've made me proud.
One thing I find weird though is that against everybody else the rare chance I get to pull off that level 3 Unknown super - the one with the barrel - ends up failing after the first or the second knife, I can't even get TO the third. Yet, when I do it on you, I have yet to NOT get to the third knife. And on top of that it succeeds more often than it doesn't, giving me that delicious 65%, but even moreso the satisfaction of knowing it worked. By the way, it may be beneficial for you to know it's unblockable; you can just walk left or right once my loli does the animation and the barrel starts falling, and I guarantee I'll toss my controller at the wall if you do which will give you a few seconds to get some free hits in while I pick it up. I'm not even sure if I'm joking.

Aaaanyway, thanks for the games bro, if you ever figure out what that weirdass fps problem was get back to me.

No thanks. /jp/ has a tradition where scenes to play fightan will arise, and over time IRC communities will break off from those scenes and the vast majorities of said communities will be tourneyfags and general douchebags. Playing this more often sounds like an opportunity, sure, but doing so would mean abandoning /jp/ and becoming something else. I did it once before, and don't want to do it again. Plus I'd be giving up on writing paragraphs post-match, I totally don't want to do that.

By the way, does this windower have any options to resize, by any chance? Not that I'm complaining because it means I can actually do things while playing now, but it just seems awfully... tiny. And this is coming from someone who usually plays things in 800x600 or 640x480.

Not quite; you don't HAVE to host with 88. As you can see from this thread, all the cool kids host with 7500, which can be done by editing under where it says "communication port" in your lang_0 file. Make sure it says "106=7500" down there.

SWRfags can even use 10800, I'm sure, but this thread looks like it's making 7500 the norm. If hosts could make sure to remember to clarify their ports as much as possible, that'd be much appreciated and save a chunk of wasted time.

FUCK, that part made me throw my controller down and start crying.
After it was over there was plenty of applause though; I'm not sure if the fact that you could get that off means I'm a scrub or you know your timing well. Then again, it looks like one of those things where the only way to not have it go through is to get interrupted - sort of like Litchi's Astral Heat - and I was expecting some sort of grab or attack to block. Hurr, whops. At least it was worth watching.

Anyway, GGs, those lessons are still as helpful as ever (I hope) -- I could practically hear the exchange of dialogue going on while it was happening, and there was a lot of "whoops I forgot, let me try that again" and an "oh right, I was supposed to that, not that, MY BAD" from my side. Yours I can only begin to fathom the profanities, most can't even put up with incompetent students for that long. Thanks a bunch for that.

And that barrel super, I know what it does, I've pulled it off a bunch on some of the poor kiddies of /jp/, and moreso I know the pain of having it sidestepped. Sure, I wanted to see you do it, but I wanted to see it hitconfirmed; I want to see how the PROS do that thing. I've seen how the pros dodge it, which as I'm sure you could've guessed by now made me scream like a drunken middle-aged dude after his favorite team lost the Super Bowl; there is NO WAY you pulled that off by accident. There was even the SFX of it hitting you and everythaaAAARARARRGERRHGHH THIS GAME.

Every time I understand more and more how hard the combos and such are to pull off and play you I am able to respect more how super pro you've become. Maybe someday.
Thanks for the games and enjoy your dinner, hopefully it will be as delicious as your victories. ;_;

But yeah, I was trying to show a few things with Mio, mainly the 214214A combos which I messed up or the 236A236A 641236C combo which I also messed up. I think you got the hints.

>barrel super
There is one nearly guaranteed way to get this off, but you've learned to stop airteching so I can't do it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yox8dZgjAwQ
Here, around 3:00 in. A second way is to get them to block or get hit by 214C and immediately do barrel, they'll get pushed to the corner and get comboed into it or have it hit unblockable.

>> No.5118243

>>5118149
>I think you got the hints.
That I did. I know now how to follow up the basic aircombo after landing, at least, but when I was trying to pull it off I ended up doing 5ABC instead of 5A 5C because of HURR other fightans; but it's okay, you got the point across. The 214214 combos are just modified versions of the wiki combos, I'm sure, so I'll just take another look at that for reference and dick around with practicality later.
Also, lol'd at both our constant attempts to mash out that FM. From the videos it doesn't look that hard to do but in actual matches, hoo shit. I'd do the L-range one but I always forget the input for it at the last second so it never happens. Oh well.

>you've learned to stop airteching
Habit from playing soku, sorry. The tourneyfags over there (read: only ZomB) go out of their way to force new players into situations where they take 80% damage or similar bullshit by airteching once. After the first time I got aircombo'd so high that I was pushing against the top of the screen, I more or less never airteched again.

>A second way is to get them to block or get hit by 214C and immediately do barrel
Yeah, that's the one I figured out myself and had been trying to do, but every single poor soul I played against got hit by that instead of blocking, and I'm not even sure if they were doing it on purpose or what. Either way, I endured a bunch of scenes where they got knocked down and the barrel just fell on top of them, doing nothing. Feels terrible, man.
Airthrowing and barreling on wakeup, though, that's an idea; I'll definitely start doing that once I can actually time well enough to do airthrows.

GGs, fellow first time netplayer. We obviously have a long way to go, but it's always fun to play like that where you have to make everything up as you go. I have to say Nagamori being able to throw out random DPs all over the place and make them safe with the notes is amazingly annoying.

>Nagamori being able to throw out random DPs all over the place and make them safe with the notes is amazingly annoying
That's mostly only for oki. If I time it right the note explosion can cross-up or not at my choice, but it's kind of tough to actually time it where I'm in control of which result I get. The wake-up shit I was pulling I don't believe was safe in the slightest, but since it worked I kept at it, nooby as it was.

If that happens, try again a couple more times. Sometimes EFZ netplay is goofy. Then check your settings if it still doesn't work. It won't work if you don't go into config and change the FPS from the default 30 to 60, and make sure all the rest are the same as it says on the wiki netplay page. It could also be your game or your caster being corrupt, like mine was, so if you can't connect to anyone, try redownloading the game and caster.

Holy shit fuck, this storm is getting really REALLY bad, I'd better stop for a while before I get struck by lightning inside my house or some similar freaky shit. GGs either way.

And... is that you, Saje? Because if it is, don't think I didn't read your posts all the time on soku threads, I know how you were "distracted" by BlazBlue for so long. I saw what your Ayu did. What I'm trying to say here is I see you, fellow Nu player.
Even if you're not Saje there's no other way anybody could just up and come up with specifically what you did, that j.BC dj.BC 214B; why, of all things, would you use 214B there when there are so many better things you could do? The answer is because you're so used to 214D that there was nothing else you could think to do in the heat of the moment, you were already drawn in by the winglike appearance of j.5C because of the j.2C 5C dj.2C 5C 214D you had grown so accustomed to. And the 6C with launcher properties, exactly like 2C. I'm almost surprised you didn't try to launch swords at me.

And again, assuming this is Saje, you have the single highest wallslam tolerance I've ever seen out of anybody claiming to be a beginner. And if you're not, the highest wallslam tolerance I've seen out of anyone in general. You scared me shitless that first match because of how you resisted all my usual tactics; later your weaknesses were revealed but you still did a hella good job of hiding them for so long. I applaud you for that.

>> No.5122871

>>5122867
Those weaknesses are, of course, ACTUAL grabs, which is ironic considering how you grabbed so much. It didn't seem like you were registering to jump out of my Mayu nonsense for the longest time, and I must admit you were the easiest to get with those command grabs of hers. Timing the followup was a little tougher since I'm so used to ~40-50fps, but normally it's j.AB dj.AB 5C or j.AB dj.AB airthrow; the latter is preferable but so much less likely to happen, I usually end up settling with 5C.

Aaanyway I should probably cut this short but not really because hurr field too long, durrhurr before the weather cuts it short for me. Thanks for the games, friend, and have a wonderful day.

Also, if you read the rest of the thread, see all that talk about "Kano magicspamming bullshit?" That's what it is. You had pretty ballin' control of her basic ground combo with the Napalm Beat and such, but the real way to play her is to make SURE you're charged before they even get a chance to airtech, and always ALWAYS 236S whenever you possibly can, bonus if they're actually close when you do it because then you can lightning them if they try to tech.
And speaking of which, as you played soku, this should sound familiar to you: Airtechs -- STOP DOING THEM. Being a Tasofro game, airtechs CAN and WILL fuck you ALL THE TIME. It may take some getting used to again, but keep it in mind all the time. Watch very, very carefully to make sure airteching is safe, because ZomB plays this.

Guilty as charged. Went for the first thing to come to mind. You may have noticed that my Cello-girl kept j.214ing after a j.5C as well, but that's a lot worse than Uguu j.214.

>You prolly didn't pick up on it while playing Soku
"Prolly" because I only got a chance to play you in Soku, like, once or twice. It's a shame too because I love the way you type and I'd always wished we could've had more chances to exchange paragraphs, but it just didn't happen. Maybe it can be done now.

>I'm a blockwhore, what can I say?
Guilty there, myself. You probably noticed since you always just grabbed in the middle of blockstrings, assuming that's not a habit as well. Grabs in this game are funky, I really don't like doing them when I can just mash out command grabs and enjoy delicious success. Wallslam city, this game.

>I try to save the magic bursting for, well, bursting really.
Hence why I say it's best to do when they're close, but if the situation looks unsafe to charge in, you're gonna want to use that thing right away. One of the advanced tourneyfag techniques in popular practice these days is to "magic cancel," which is basically hitting SS after certain normals to charge up a certain amount of the magic bar, which I can guarantee comes in handy against actual good players because waiting out the charge becomes literally impossible, and they'll be punishing burst attempts as much as possible. They can do this because it's NOT a burst, actually; it only looks like one because of the pushback. Don't be fooled.

Play it safe, and I'd like to know why the fuck my electricity still hasn't gone out yet.

Habit, what can I say?

>"Prolly" because I only got a chance to play you in Soku, like, once or twice
I thought we played more than that... I know recently it's only been once or twice, but way waaaaay back when 12.3 first came out I think we played together a number of times. The amount the two of us have played that game, we had to bump heads more than once or twice.

>You probably noticed since you always just grabbed in the middle of blockstrings, assuming that's not a habit as well
Partly habit, partly "Hey, those first three worked and he still hasn't picked up on it!" Of course, once I thought that I kept misjudging the range and wound up with a 5/6C instead. That sucked...

>Wallslam city, this game
Oh God, yes. You'd best be comfortable with getting out of the corner, because everything fucking corners in this game. Now if only I would stop attempting corner mix-ups with aerial attacks... The jumps are way too high and the gravity way too low for that sort of thing to work... Another habit I've built up from BB. You'd be amazed how many people eat simple Jin j.5Bs because they try to poke out. Simply beautiful...

>"magic cancel," which is basically hitting SS after certain normals to charge up a certain amount of the magic bar
Intriguing... I'll have to look into this some more... Maybe if I actually have bar I'll be able to learn how to use it correctly, heh. Go for the lightning, they're in my face. >Go for the lightning, they're in my face.
Train yourself to forget the lightning even exists when you're just standing there trying to figure out which spell to use; it should ONLY be situational, say, after your 236S "burst" or have just been launched, or are otherwise in the air for whatever reason.

>Go for the ice, it whiffs.
Judge distance on that one. Don't do it when they're approaching because it'll get Touhou'd and disappear out of thin air when they punch you in the face halfway through the animation. Rather, do it when they're far or - better yet - on oki, because then...

>Go for the fire, they're in the corner block whoring.
If you ice them on oki and it's blocked, great! Fire them and keep them blocking while you charge up for more mischeif and work your way into getting close enough to hit them with mixup/crossup/whatever and stop their blockwhoring ways. If you icebolt them and it whiffs, chances are that's because they're headed your way, MEANING fireball is normally your best chance to either get them blocking or just plain hit them out of their advance. You'd probably be pleased to know that the latter is what happens more often, hence why I've been referring to it as "Kano magicspamming bullshit." Once you get it all working together it fucks shit up, plus you can feel good for playing a "lunatic" character as our beloved tierlist describes.

>Go for the super, whoops, I dunno which one to use BECAUSE SHE HAS 13 FUCKING SUPERS, ARGH!
Personally, I like 2141236C Soul Strike because, although it just about never ever hits, it keeps them blocking for a longass time and you have just enough recovery to do whatever the hell you want. Plus they get pushed to the corner while blocking most of the time, which makes it even better.

I'm no pro Kano myself though, so don't take my word for this stuff too much.

>> No.5123176

>>5123101
Thanks, that helps explain things a lot more. Magic canceling is pretty difficult to put into words, but seeing it actually done makes it seem like a real hassle to do, especially when in this specific example our tourneyfag friend only really did magic-cancel combos a couple times; most of the magic charges came from charging on block or oki, which is something you see often because it's usually effective. Still, magic-canceling is something that helps to know anyway, so I'm glad someone trotted along and threw that out there.
