That's the POINT. It's to show just how crazy powerful Yukari is that one of the most powerful beings known is her Servant.

But seriously, the thing I don't get is why people forget that Ran has some border powers of her own, heck a bunch of other powers.

Controlling servants is just her specialty, even in her official profiles she performs checks and repairs of the border on her own because Yukari doesn't want to do them anymore.

Some would say that she gets that power from Yukari, but I doubt it. If Yukari could have gotten another youkai and powered them up to this level she probably would have.

She does get more power from Yukari. It`s the same way with Chen getting more power being near her master.

Yukari has bound with Ran to the point that she has given her the family name. Do you honestly think she'd do that with just any Youkai? Chen isn't even permitted to carry the name.

I thought that was one of the benefits of the master-slave relationship for a shikigami. The closer you are to your master, the more powerful you are. Hence why shikigami become midbosses to their masters.

When you fight against Ran as an EX Boss, Yukari is asleep and Ran is actually disobeying Yukari's previous orders to not fight with humans, something that should according to what Yukari believes should make her power drop to something that could not even be compared to hers... and yet she's still an EX.

Tamanomae is the most famous of the fox spirits after all and she had the 9 tails.

That's actually the whole point of Ran. She's an Extra stage boss and Phantasm stage midboss, something that has been without precedent in Touhou and hasn't been implemented since. She is, as you point out, a viciously powerful monster of Japanese folklore, ridiculously so. Even then, she's the servant of the gap youkai Yukari, and powerful enough then to have her OWN servant in the form of Chen. Disregarding danmaku, we probably haven't even seen anything close to the peak regarding her real strength, since at best you fight her when she's handicapped, as you have pointed out.

So what does this say about Yukari? How much more powerful, then, is she?
