You see a kanji like 顧, notice it has 21 fucking strokes and you shit your pants; however, you can break kanji up 雇 and 頁 so it's only 2 fucking things
then you can break them up even further

also, if you don't write kanji down, expect to never go anywhere in Japanese, it's fundamental for learning kanji

if you skip that, then you will often find yourself forgetting kanji, not to mention without writing kanji down you won't notice little differences like these 良艮 and you'll end up reading things wrong constantly.

Been studying since September (university classes) and we spent time on hiragana/katakana well before we even started kanji. Then, we focused mostly on grammar/vocab

This summer, I'm taking summer courses where I learn either 500 or 1000 over the summer. The course description said 500/semester and i'm taking 2 semesters over summer, so we'll see how it works out.
