If he would continue, they would make a decision which would involve him continuing the project directly on TLWiki, or they would set up a new wiki for that purpose.

I know you all want to stick it to the man, but you should understand that TRANSLATORS are the one making the choices here. If they wanted to continue, they would do it, and people would support them.

tl;dr: Ask yourself if a project is needed on practical grounds. If any of the affected translators would want to continue, they could do so.

They're afraid eroge would get more known in the West and more evil organizations like Equality Now would try to censor them. They may also be more wary of licensing in the West. It might also be worth considering that some of the translators working on fan translations might be interested in doing official localizations of these games too, and if the ruin their relationships with the japanese company, that road would be closed for them.

For normal readers, this doesn't mean a lot, but for the makers and the translators, there are a bit more issues to consider.

This doesn't mean I wouldn't support a group that chooses to ignore a C&D, but by doing so, those groups accept that some roads might be closed for them in the future.

Don't be silly. I know some translators who are japanese, they didn't pay to learn the language. Most learned it for their own benefit. If they translate a game, they're only doing it because they want to share the game to a wider audience. It's less of an epeen thing, than it is in the animu scene.

Most of them understood that from the beginning, but some of them naively thought the company wouldn't mind, while others didn't care. Those that thought the company didn't mind might stop translating, while the rest will probably continue, unless they have some other reason to stop(like the possibility of commercial localization).
