This was our project before and it's our project again.

Collect together what translations we've got, discuss what needs to be accomplished. We have 2 routes finished, Yusumi and Anzu, I'll upload them to mediafire. Which versions are the most updated?

Much thanks and applause to Lennar who has kept the project going despite not receiving much thanks for it at all and all the others who translated this project back in December but quit because of poor management.

My (biased) 2c:

Get some sort of a wiki (or a static page, at the very least) that has authoritative info on what's happening first. I bet half the people reading this are utterly confused (myself included).

Also, please don't fall into the trap of trying to discuss every little thing - get something going first, then listen to feedback. TLwiki, svn server (I could help with hosting, actually if you go that route), some custom webface, whatever - just get it going before you lose momentum.

YOU pre-empted MY project. I was the one who started this if you can't seem to remember,about nine months ago when I said that this is the best incest game I've ever played and gave it a 10/10.

Then I said I'd be willing to translate if someone were to get the text files from the game, after a week or more of effort a bunch of anonymous hackers did the job, then you preempted it and took it for your website.

As far back as your threads go.

http://archive.easymodo.net/cgi-board.pl/jp/thread/3247959

Oh hey look, there's me, Incest guy, there's no Cudder, no lolita, no retrans website. Just me, promising I would help translate if someone were to extract the text. Then I was politely shoved off the project because my translations weren't good enough. That's fine, I'm not the best, others have picked up where I left off.

This projects was OURS from the beginning, my original intention was to share text files with each other with mediafire and fix problems as we went along which I'm perfectly willing to do again.

Don't act like this project is yours just because you built a website for it. Sure, your website works, great, we're done with it now, why? Because you harass us and we don't like it. Thanks.

Jesus fucking christ, why the fuck is there so much drama and butthurt? This is a translation project here, the main point is to get a Visual Novel translated from Japanese to English. And how did this all start? HURR THE MANAGER GOT MAD AT THE TRIP FRIEND TRANSLATOR. LET'S REVOLT. What the fuck? The truth of the matter is that the trip friend DID in fact jack up the database.

Take this for example, you're working at Amazon.com and your boss wants you to make a new sorting method. Fuck yes, you made the most efficient, most elegant code evar, above and beyond what was requested. Things look good so far, you slip your wonderful code in and holy shit, the site's interface gets completely fucked up and Amazon has to go down for maintenance. Is your boss happy even though your code was so amazing the sacred light emanating from the scripts would make the Vedas hang it's pages in shame? Fuck no he wouldn't. Something fucked up and someone has to fix it. No doubt whoever that has to fix it is pissed too. But by the end of the day, when the site goes back up and running and the new sorting method pulls in several thousand loyal shoppers, your boss will no doubt give you a pat on the back.

>> No.4934149

This should be nothing more than a small hurdle. It's not like any work is being left unappreciated. Whoever inserted the text, your contribution and efforts will without a doubt be acknknowledged as the project continues on. TL checkers will thank you, editors will thank you, and of course the readers will thank you as well. And when the project finally finishes, the manager will thank all who contributed and that of course includes you.

Now for those who are complaining about the interface, it seems Cudder is actively trying to improve it, and if 100 line realtime insertions is implemented, there'd be no reason to use a wiki from a technical standpoint. I've translated over 5000 lines of Common (Will resume once summer hits) and the interface and the site are fine. It worked flawlessly no matter where I went, be it on my school campus or at home. Honestly, why the drama, why the butthurt, why the needless schism of the translation base that would effectively be detrimental to the overall progression and efficiency of the project? Quit the butthurt, suck it up, and let's get the project done. We're losing sight of the original goal here.

And I'm pretty sure over half of this nonsense are trolls just getting kicks by trying to kill this translation project.

Ok, this is what it I meant. See here:

http://tsukuru.info/tlwiki/index.php?title=Hatsukoi:Scripts:common1

Say, you have the untranslated original:

{{**|23100|$menu 恥ずかしいよね,CMN0102_1a}}
{{**|23200|$menu 嬉しいよね,CMN0102_1b}}

I suggest commenting them out like this and adding a new line:

{{//|23100||$menu 恥ずかしいよね,CMN0102_1a}}
{{**|23100|$menu Embarrassed,CMN0102_1a}}
{{//|23200||$menu 嬉しいよね,CMN0102_1b}}
{{**|23200|$menu Happy,CMN0102_1b}}

Alternatively, we could just treat them like text lines (i.e. have JA/EN lines from the start), but then, they wouldn't stand out from the rest of the text, either...

>> No.4941928

I don't think it's mediawiki itself, actually - I assume people just run a bot that periodically pulls the scripts from the wiki, counts the lines, and updates a certain page.

There was an article about it in the New York Times that compared the official human translation of One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabrial Garcia Marquez and The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery with the one by Google Translate and the one by Google Translate was every bit as good as the human translated versions.

The problem is few people care about translations of Japanese so they're not submitting translations like those of French and Spanish.

It wouldn't be shocking, but European languages are structurally similar except for the symbol ordering. So transliteration with minor grammatical adjustments will suffice for a mostly decent translation.

But it is far more complex to automate a conversion between two drastically different symbol sets without loss of meaning. This becomes even more tricky when translating to a language used for explicit exchange of information, from a language where the meaning is generally implied.

So the "evidence" he describes to support his argument isn't even relevant whether it's true or not.

That's not the reason. Japanese is too context-dependent for people to submit translations that will be correct even most of the time, and that's the same reason why machine translations for it will never work (short of developing some AI to do it or something).

All languages are "context dependent". It's just that English requires more things to be expressed explicitly than Japanese. Translating Japanese to, for example, Korean would be much easier.
