Basically though it's the same thing. Battler has sinned and he's being judged. He wants Maria to protect him he wants the lord to save him (Kyrie Eleison means "Lord save me") and he prays "Beata maria" (Happy (or) Holy Mary) to protect him. But in the end he always dies in a fire.

The most convincing thing I've read so far is that whoever is 'Beatrice' is actually trying to stop whatever explosion/eruption/whathaveyou that is confirmed in ep6.

That's why she's trying to get the family to the gold for some reason. The murders are some other faction(s).

There would be no sweetness in an end where the piece Beatrice dies, bitter sweet end will more likely be Maria, Kraus, and George dieing. Really, they are the shallowest and most expendable characters that would hit the most people if they died.
