I dislike generic protagonists - by those I mean the ones who don't seem to have a personality of their own at all. But it's okay if the protagonist has different values then me, if it's developed and motivated within the story. Will make me rage sometimes, but I still can enjoy the game.
Cross Channel has a protagonist who I don't like, can't relate to, can't understand, and who with the time passing didn't get much consistent character development, but rather gotten more annoying. Mind you, I didn't finish the game, I only played for a couple of hours - it's entirely possible that this changes, as

Of course I can relate to them, not to their situation(most of the time at least), but to their values, and their thoughts and emotions when going trough the story. As I said it's not necessary if the story is good, but it does affect my enjoyment somewhat.

Yes. The setting allows you to do that. I never loaded or started a new game. Well, I loaded saves from when I restarted the game, but you can't go wrong. It's quite easy, even for a visual novel newbie like me.
