I had a dream involving Matara last night. At first I remember being in some kind of moderately narrow room that had a staircase going up on one side, no windows, and on the other side had a set up for watching TV or playing videogames. I think there were a lot of consoles. I remember there were both children and adults there. I sat down to watch a television show or perhaps movie, and got sort of put in it. I was sitting with other people, at least one child, a boy, and at least one adult, a bald bearded man with black hair. At first a children's educational program was selected, which disappointed me because I thought it would be boring and overly sanitized. However, I remember later being in a colorful action cartoon involving sneaking onto a base with a lot of red painted stuff and colorful evil robots. Sandy Cheeks from Spongebob was there and broke something important, I think.

Later I remember being at the sea, experiencing something about a giant squid. I remember a big pinkish/white squid poking its head(?) out of the water, with one eye clearly visible and a large, prominent beak, which I don't think real squid have. It looked to be about person-sized., not counting the tentacles. While at the sea, apparently levitating over the water, an image of Matara-jin in orange clothes that looked like a scroll painting or ukiyo-e print entered my vision. I can't remember what he or she (not sure what pronoun to use here. He AND she?) was doing there, but it was something important. That's all I remember of the dream. A god interacting with a sea monster reminds me of the Aztec myth about how Tezcatlipoca and Quetzalcoatl ripped apart the sea monster known as Cipactli or Tlaltecuhtli to create the earth.

I've had a few other weird dreams as of late as well. Yesterday's last night I had a dream where I was watching paper dolls or simple 3d models fight a war, and in the dream this was the real life Russian-Ukrainian war and the war ended after most of the Russian air force was destroyed in a great battle in the sky. I remember being relieved that the war was over but worried about the state of the civilians.

At an unknown but recent date I remember another dream where my room had a skylight and I was staring at the sky and saw a UFO that looked just like a star. At first it emitted two spinning cones of light that lit up the air, and then it started transforming and making complex constellations. At one point it made star shapes with many, very long points, and another time it made shapes like wings and the best comparison I can think of is some of these thunderbird symbols. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbird_(mythology) I remember being afraid of the UFO for I have read cases where UFOs are very evil and powerful. In the dream I took pictures of the strange patterns with my phone. I had a false awakening where I went downstairs in a house that does not resemble my real one and spoke to my dad about the strange things I saw only to learn he had seen them too, and strange metal junk had mysteriously appeared in the cabinet under our sink.

The final dream is that I was in a large store which was undergoing some kind of grand celebration. I think it might've been Halloween even though that holiday has already passed weeks ago. I remember drinking soda from a large cup that had some kind of rock candy spread on the straw. I remember being given clothes for free and wondering how the store could afford to do so. I talked to someone about it and learned that the store was taking people, I think killing them, and the clothes were from previous victims. I decided to openly confront the issue with a fight and began looking for those responsible, confident that the clown god would protect me from and assist me in fighting evil clowns (I think someone was dressed up in an extravagant outfit like a stereotypical circus showman).

I was with some friends and we went to supposedly haunted house. On the way we saw a red orb of light pass us by very close. Guys I had a weird nightmare and it's got me feeling strange.
So, I was playing this game I had made that I forgot about, and there was some weird alien creature with tubes coming out of his head. It told me about a massacre that was inflicted upon it's people and how it was perpetrated by a single person. He was a futurama-lookin weirdo though, so I didn't give it to much thought, then I started walking around in a maze where there were all these tickets with numbers on them, and something started to chase me. When I got out and showed the alien the tickets, he got all joyful and said how the villain who killed his people had used such a ticket to come to their planet and asked if I could search for more. I started to go back to the maze and there was some hunky dory music playing until I came upon some bodies. A lot of the aliens, all horribly maimed, at the point the music cut and I was upon the maze again, except this time the walls were lowered so you could jump across them and the paths were filled with brambles. I then realized I was missing my No. 2 ticket, the one I used to come to the planet, and I heard the alien shout from a distance behind me: "It was you!". I started to hop across the maze, but woke up before I got to the end, it was like 2:00 in the morning.

Is this a sign that I'm guilty of alien genocide? A premonition? Some creative input? I'm really curious since Okina and dreams seem to be linked somehow.

My schizo Okina headcanon is that she took part in the creation of Gensokyo to give the Youkai a place to thrive given they were starting to be forgotten about by humans in the Outside World.

If we are talking about in-game lore, her exact motive for getting involved is a mystery. However, we could speculate about her feeling scorned for having her main temple at Mt. Hiei getting torched. Another possible motivation closer to the given creation date of Gensokyo is the haibutsu kishaku anti-Buddhist campaign. Matarajin is a largely Buddhist deity after all. Things like these could have left her feeling like she would rather throw her lot with youkai than humans.

For the truly "schizo" answer, she got involved with the creation of "Gensokyo" as we know it, filtered through ZUN's imagination, because there were only so many times someone like ZUN could dig deep into history or look up into the skies before she came for him. Maybe he was fated to meet her the first time he laid his eyes upon the Big Dipper as a child. Maybe it was all the Demon Gate of Makai stuff. Maybe it was researching Taoism for Ten Desires, where he probably stumbled upon how Taoism influenced Japanese belief in the creator deities dwelling in the Big Dipper. Maybe it was something else. Whatever it was, if you even have the tiniest capacity to perceive her, in any of her myriad forms, as a flight of fancy or the subject of earnest belief, she will come for you, as she has come to myriad who have laid their gaze on the northern skies.

Polaris is actually a trinary star system, but the two smaller stars are not visible to the naked eye, and as far as I know the Chinese did not have telescopes that could see them either. The Big and Little Dippers are directly opposite of each other, and you can draw a line that goes through the North Star between the two. And for whatever reason, the Chinese thought that the Big Dipper actually has nine stars, but two of them are invisible. I have not found much anything on this on the English internet, and machine translation mutilates Chinese.

I don't want to pretend that I understood your question completely anon, but I will try my best to answer it.
I really like the name of her game, and even moreso the name of her extra boss theme. Like there's a lot of 2hu games that have nice names, but I feel that after UFO they've lost a bit of the punch, the force, the instant recognition factor. Like the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Perfect Cherry Blossom, Imperishable Nights, the Phantasmagoria of Dimensional Dream, these are just fantastic names. I still like things like Double Dealing Character or Unconnected Marketeers, but they don't have the same ring to it.
However, her game is different. Hidden Star in Four Seasons - what an awesome name, that only becomes even better in her extra boss theme. It's already a great theme, but the way it calls back to her previous theme and the name of the game makes it so much more epic. Like, it's the Hidden Star in ALL Seasons, you know? Normally we wouldn't see any difference between four seasons and all seasons, but obviously the context of the game makes it pretty clear.
I also love her final boss theme + extra boss theme as a pair. Listening to the extra theme after the other is a great experience.
