I don't get why people have such a hardon for Souun. He's marginally better than other diviners, true, but that just makes him slightly less pathetically useless.

And don't start on the "all shikigami" track, you're far better to have someone who can KILL the enemy so you don't have to worry about getting killed yourself. One footsoldier with all guard is sufficient defence even in five star.

Miko Dance 2 is faster than Large Lightning and not dependent on your troop size. Used in combination with a monk with three shots of convert action, you win, regardless of opponent troop size.
That being said, Omachi is still broken tier, especially if you get her early game via bonuses on not-5-star games.

Maeda had ~1000 or so, pretty standard for a space-filler footsoldier for me. He did roughly 500 damage to a ~4k stack of non-guarding footsoldiers, whereas Houjo, also with about 1k troops for testing purposes, only did 3-400 to a comparable stack.

Shoun uses magic attacks.
Footsoldiers sometimes have great INT(there are enemy footmen with def 4 and INt 8). Remember, INT is used to defend against magical attacks.
Perhaps you should have experimented a bit MORE.
