Does anyone else feel a bit bothered by S/mileage and their entire debut campaign? When I watch the S/mileage segments on Bijo Gaku, it makes me think about how UFA hasn't tried this hard in a long time to attract interest in their groups. I don't dislike the girls or anything, but I feel like UFA is putting so much effort into promoting this new group when they should be using those kinds of resources on helping established groups. They've even set up public blogs for all the S/mileage members, while Sayu and Reina are the only members in MM to do so. Honestly, I am a bit jealous. I guess the same goes for Mano Erina but she's kind of special since she's a soloist and nobody can really hate on Mano.

I think you are underestimating what it takes to create a successful sub group in the current climate for H!P.
I mean look at Guardians 4, they were able to do well enough for themselves, enough so to justify their reason to be together.
But even so, they are combining several well known girls from Berryz & Musume and still the singles aren't blowing up the charts or anything.

Given that, Tsunku trying to put a face on s/Mileage and distinguish themselves as a legitimate group of their own I think has been handled pretty well. Using Mano on Hanbun, the radio shows, blogs are all standard stuff in the idol industry.

Tsunku took his sweet time to allow Musume to embrace twitter, social networking sites and personal blogs. Obviously he had his business reasons for doing so in the past but when it is such a normal standard now, it can only be seen as restrictive not allowing them to do so.

I don't know, I'm not jealous at all of how s/Mileage have launched, I hope they do alright as it is a very competitive time for H!P artists.

Wasn't this discussed previously already, its not about paranoia, its about spotting biases and tactics.
I don't anyone expected Bijo Goku to be a standout show standing in the same foundation as the previous show.

I'm just glad that its more interesting and more hands on then just a one on one. Of course I'd prefer to have Musume have their own show but its rather clear now that Tsunku is bundling the package.

Only so much can be done at 1:00 A:M on TVTokyo to begin with. Throw in no big promotion and member mixups that may turn some wotas off and you may see numbers like this.

No idea, she was on the last two A-Nations tours without having even relaesed a single on the label, so I'm guessing that Max will put her on the 2010 bill as well.
Last officail thing I read was that she's working on her next solo release that is to be released "after spring". Nothing too exciting since it's basically the same ish she was doing before the accident with her mom. Still great to hear about her being back at work so soon.

You really need to look at her last year at H!P to get a sense of where her direction was going. This is not anything new but at Avex they really allowed her to get into a different pop musical style. Her sexier look has been around for a while as well.

Yeah, to be honest, I download and listen to the music a lot more than watching the PVs. I know this is unheard of, but what can I say? So I finally got around to watching the Sweet Black PVs last night and was sorta taken aback by her look. It's pretty hot, but I don't know how I feel about it overall. I just don't want her to turn into one of the skanky female pop stars we have in the US.

Again, just look at the Some Boys Touch release, the process was already kind of full circle for her. She clearly wanted to do things differently and with all the family troubles back then her position became untenable.

Personally I don't like the new style as it sounds like a lot of recycled hip hop stylings from the early 00's. But Queen Bee is a great song in my book and don't get me started on Bigga Raiji.

I really don't care for the R&B inflections in the music, either. I come from more of an indie rock background and that stuff tends to leave me very cold, but that said, I've also seen it done well in J-Pop. I really liked MM's Platinum 9 Disc which had some brief forays into that territory to maximum effect. Backtracking a little, I wholeheartedly agree that Sweet Black is an awesome song if a strange departure from the Maki we all grew to know and love.

I think I have close to 50 plays for Loving you forever already..After listening to the full album I'm still impressed on how cohesive the tracks actually seem to be. Again, propping up and strengthening the tracks and creating a flow. Obviously everyone's opinions will be different but this how the album stands out to me.

It's a good record that suffered from kind of an identity crisis that came from having 87 different people working on 8 songs ranging from electro pop to acoustic ballads, rap collabs and Pussycat Dolls ish.
I hope that they go with a single sound for her album instead of throwing every club-pop style against the wall and seeing what sticks. Then again Sweet Black was a collab and not her album, but I'm pretty sure that we can guess what kind of music she'll be doing in the future. I'm also curious to see how much of the album Maki herself will write. "After spring" can't come soon enough.


And speaking of reviews, what kind of reviews does MM's albums get in Japan? From the press I mean.

And I love how the default write up now is this comparison to what is new now and back then. Its the worst argument for Musume who have been around for over ten years.
