Hi, /jp/?

/tg/ here. You said hi, so I figured we should say hi in return.

Not sure if this is too related, but may I present to you the core rules of the Legend of the Five Rings (or "L5R") RPG. It's based on feudal Japanese society, so I figured you might have some interest in it.

Then again, you might not because it isn't anime. I don't know.

Hope you do though. Consider it a gift from nerd to otaku, even if we're the same thing when it comes down to it.

Yeah, heard of it. That's a good game, though I'm not good with tabletop games due to crippling social anxiety and all.

Honestly crunchwise the only gaping fault is the unspoken rule to insert Japanese all over the place. Either force people to actually speak Japanese to fully imitate Tokugawa samurai or allow me to name my character Bayushi Bob without taking gaijin name disadvantage.

/a/ is about anime and manga, not /jp/, fellow /tg/. I will accept your offer and go check it out.

Using dicebots, roleplaying games can be played online, if that helps.

Besides, the "unspoken rule" about everything needing to be Japanese? I thought you guys would appreciate that over here.

Apologies. Not familiar with /jp/. "Otaku Culture" just seems like a broad term that you could fit many things under, so I decided to just say "anime".

Nah, using Japanese in English conversations is retarded, barring names and such (that's why I hate certain Kojiki translations, reading August-impetuous-swift-male instead of Susanoo ticks you off after a while. ) From what I've seen, /jp/ shares that opinion as a whole.

Respect for /jp/ rising. Wow. I thought you folks would be hideously weeaboo, but you're not half-bad.

Although, we do have a rather bad Touhou infestation on /tg/ but whenever we complain about it there, they just say ">implying you can complain about Touhou being unrelated on 4chan lol".

Those are probably the /jp/ Scum. The good /jp/ certainly hates weeaboo stuff (and when I say weeaboo stuff I mean the annoying shit such as putting Japanese words in English conversation) and also hates the characteristic "/v/ Implying".

/tg/ threads usually do good here and get a lot of responses pretty fast, I dare to say that the interaction between /jp/ and /tg/ is one of the best board interaction in 4chan.

/tg/ also has a fairly good relationship with /x/ (and that's not just the stupid interboard drawfaggotry) but yes, /tg/ also has a good connection with /jp/ too.

... For a board that is home to the most anti-social nerds to ever wander 4chan, /tg/ sure has a pretty good relationship with almost every board.

Except /m/, I think. But let's not go there.

The only forced-moonspeak I've seen in L5R games is just the names and the honorifics.

And the Honorifics thing can be dropped without much trouble, just use standard English titles of nobility instead. Then again, I suppose I can't claim my L5R game isn't weeaboo, its set in a version of old japan that's based off Rance and sengoku Basara.

I was on /tg/ from day one.

Touhou was there before love bloomed. Touhou was there before there was a new commissar. Before Shadowsun was Shadowtsundere, Touhou was there.

There's a reason that a lot of the regulars used to jokingly call the place /touhou games/.

L5R has had a worse case of powercreep than M:tG, the storyline, while never extremely well written, has gone from at least enjoyable to just silly since Gold Edition. Pretty much everything in the story decided by tournaments, and it just ends up with things not making sense at all.

While the Third Edition rules are great, the Third Edition setting is complete shit, I would recommend you go with the Pre-Coup setting of First Edition, before everything went down the shitter.

>> No.4825924

Go for it. I'm not saying Touhou should be on /tg/ or anything.

Just saying that it's not a new thing for it to pop up. Touhoufag wasn't even the one who started it, though he's one of the few that still uses it regularly.

Hell, for a while, there was someone working on a tabletop strategy game styled off of Touhou. IIRC, he didn't get terribly far, but he had a few interesting ideas regarding how to use patterns, differentiating between 'spellcards' and 'bombs', and multiple patterns interacting.

I think he got bored and wandered away, though.

>>4825924
Basically, you sit around a table with your friends. One person acts as the GM (gamemaster). This has to be an intelligent person who has the responsibility of controlling the world and everyone in it. The rest of the people around the table play characters. These characters are the only characters that the GM does not control. They interact with the setting that the GM controls, and the GM creates storylines that the players run their characters through.

The mechanics of this game vary a lot, but generally, you have to roll a die that can have any number of sides, depending on the game. If you roll above (or below a certain number, depending on the RPG you're playing) a certain number, you hit your opponent, for example. The number you must roll above or below is determined by the armour he's wearing, how fast he is, etc.

It's kinda complex, but kinda simple.

>> No.4825970

>>4825961
I guess it takes a while to get used to it.

>> No.4825978

>>4825970
Not at all. At first, you will look up every single rule in the books, but later on you will memorize the important stuff. Other than that... you just do whatever you want, as long as the GM allows it.

>> No.4826071

>>4825970
Once you get used to the mindset, you know what important stuff to memorize, remember a handful of important page references for stuff too complex to memorize and that's about it.

One of the attractive parts of tabletop RPGs is that it's a world that is restrained only by the GM. There's no technical, code or graphics limits. Just the limit of your and your GM's imagination. Then you can just play anything you like.

Yeah, it sounds escapist, but screw anyone who insults us over that.
