Guys, I know it has been a very long time, but what exactly happened to C's Ware? Why did they close?

What about Jast? The real one, not the one owned by Peter Payne. Last I heard they decided to become an education focused company or something.

Any information is appreciated.

Kept searching. Their last game was in 2007, and it was published by another company that appears to do something entirely different nowadays.

While I agree on the moe thing, it was a chore to make the plot advance when you had to click so many flags just to make the plot advance.

Then again, there were games that had zero plot, so I guess it was needed in order to provide a sense of interactivity.

For games like runawaycity or season of sakura it was just click click, girl, click, next girl.
Even today it still hasn't lost it's charme. But there are games like Desire and Eve burst error where you had to click everything in an order until you got it. I still like it better than the choice system that we get today.
Plus, pixel fapping is hot.

The keycodes are apparently different on my laptop than on my desktop, and when I tried to use DOSBox on it a while back I discovered that various keys gave the wrong result, and some keys wouldn't do anything (for example, backslash was mapped to the close-bracket key, and either there was no mapping for close-bracket or it was mapped to the open-bracket key and that one wasn't mapped). I tried fixing that using the keymapper, but it didn't work, and it didn't seem to be a driver problem either.

Anyway while I enjoyed Nocturnal Illusion I will never enjoy the system for exploring the game. I once got stuck at one point in the game because to proceed I had to attempt to enter a room I knew I couldn't get into twice in succession. Only by accident did I ever work out how to get past that.

Sorry for my poor English.

C's ware was a brand of Himeya Soft. They debuted in 1993 with "Kindan no Ketsuzoku".
They became popular by one creator, Yukihiro Kenno. His works, especially "Desire"(1994) and "EVE burst error"(1995), are still regarded as legendary VN.
But after "EVE burst error" Kenno went to Elf. (And there he created YU-NO, famed as one of the best thing in the history of VN.)

C's ware started to die slowly.
They released some well-done games, such as "Gloria"(1996), "Divi-dead"(1998) or "luv wave"(1998), but they couldn't satisfy their customers, who expected masterpieces like Kenno's.
Besides, their products often had serious bugs, so they were called "Bug ware".
Those things made their customers disappointed, and that brand finally disappeared. Their last game was released in 2003.

Now Himeya Soft is a small web-business company, so aren't developing any VN.
And of course, they are familiar to overseas otakus by Himeya Shop.
