Anyone play the piano?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnxaUwuD_XY

I just started playing a few weeks ago, I'm having trouble stretching my fingers that far apart. Any advice?

Yes, I've been playing it since I was 8.

Suggestion, start learning as a kid.

I've been helping a friend learn over the last few months and can tell you it's more then possible; in fact I'm tired of pretentious assholes like you who try and tell people it's impossible because of some selfish desire for superiority.

>> No.4753957

>>4753893

There isn't anything pretentious about it. It's the way the brain works. If you start an instrument as a child your brain will be wired differently than if you started as an adult. Starting later in life is a tremendous disadvantage.

>> No.4753973

very hard to learn the piano (especially) into adulthood. its best picked up young, hence why so many of the best pianists were child prodigies.

you can still learn, but practice practice practice. if your fingers cant stretch, you just don't have "piano fingers" as they're called

Concert pianist Vladimir Horowitz tells about the time he played a dissonant contemporary composition at a private gathering. When he finished, someone asked, 'I don't understand what that composition means, Mr. Horowitz. Could you explain it?'

Without a word, Horowitz played the composition again, and when he finished he turned to his questioner and said, 'That's what it means.'

I'm trying to play piano more often nowadays, in the effort to improve my skills. I've basically been stuck at a shitty beginner/intermediate level for years due to laziness and lack of practice. Anyone have any tips for me to make progress?

Basically, all I've been doing is play weeaboo songs printed off the internet. Any suggestions on what I should do are appreciated.

From my experience, the majority of people who have played since they were a kid doesn't have many bragging rights except having played since they were a kid. So many just let it be a thing they do for fun once in a while, and don't even practice daily. These people could easily be bested by an adult who has been practicing seriously for 2-3 years.

So tell me, how good are you, exactly?
