Originally Sill was magically brainwashed to be unconditionally obedient to her owner, but the best-before-date of the spell is long past. It's unclear to what extent the spell has worn off, but judging from the dialogue it seems she's staying with Rance at least in part because she wants to.

Why the hell she'd ever want that, I have no idea, but it's a good thing she does. You really don't want to be enemies someone who can easily lift several times her own weight.

You use dousan to keep using accurate shots until your enemy can't do anything then suck away their life with miko storm 2 repeatedly. Torui is there to ensure that the bar stays past the point.

You can't use that comparison. Military, training and combat tactics take more brainpower than boxing genius.

On that note, you should've equated Mike's boxing genius with Rance's swordfighting genius instead. While Rance does act more on his instincts, he's pretty smart when it comes to fighting and negotiating with women for sex.

You can't use the strategy with one of them missing but you still can fight well. If you use Omachi, instead of raping them with strategy, you'll Omachi rape them.

I said I'd work on it together with more people if however they have enough confidence in their Japanese as I'd want the translation to be way better than e.g. the Hatsukoi translation is right now.

I already worked a bit on Aスタート.ADV, you can see how you translate it there - every line is given twice and you only need to translate the second occurence. Note that the character ' denotes a command and cannot be used, I'm putting a ` instead for now (maybe that can be fixed later if someone proficient enough looks at the compiler).

You also can insert extra lines at will and I think even extra boxes of text if you renumber the rest but I haven't tried that yet.

Well, I'm not too confident in my Japanese. I was basically wanting to do it since I figured no one else would. If you want help, that's fine. If not, that's fine too. Even if its not translation, I can do any image editing that might crop up. But I doubt there's anything like that in Rance 3 (but you would need it for Rance VI and Kichikuou).

Looking at it, Rance 3 doesn't seem very long in terms of text. That's good.

I think 3 still was a bit simpler but the later games use pretty high level Japanese. Also since Alicesoft is located in Osaka there are some words or structures you might be unfamiliar with if you've just learned "regular" Japanese like I did. For example Rance used "eedo, eedo" instead of "haha, GOOD" in the earlier games ("eedo" being the Osaka equivalent of "iizo") or "egatta" instead of "yokatta". Little things like that.

It has around 11,500 lines, that's not particularily short. Of course no comparison to Rance VI or Kichikuoh.

Well, oldschool RPGs aren't VNs were you'll spend 10+ hours just reading. If you're used to translating 8 and 16-Bit RPGs that's quite a lot of text.

But yeah, with two or three people it should be possible to finish in a reasonable amount of time. If we're going to actually start doing this I'd say we should agree on some IRC room or whatever to keep in touch, I'd rather not have the whole thing become an anonymous everyone can do stuff kind of job too.

Like with Elizabeth from VI, because she was mindbroken from being told that her dreams of rebellion were over as she was gangraped by her own soldiers, and regressed to that of a child's thought processes. The success rate of Insanity defenses is MINISCULE. Any competent defense attorney knows that using it is almost guaranteeing a guilty verdict, and will refuse to do so. Rapists were, and always have been, considered criminals and punished. And, just like it is today, the wealthy and powerful were usually able to find ways to get out of being punished that those that weren't wealthy and powerful could not.

Sengoku Rance tips for newbies.


- Stats are more important than troop size. And anything above 6 makes a huge difference. For affection bonuses you should focus on increasing your stats after obtaining the abilities you want.

- Levels only matter in dungeon and special fights. Rance is really the only character you need to level. Except in the Kenshin route, you'll want to level up Kenshin after her level drops.

- For every 5 prisoners released you get a free level up item.

- Until you can increase the number of actions or fans, reinforcements is the best satisfaction bonus. The second character from Zeth is one of the best units in the game due to her accurate shots ability.

- If you recruit the mino three, then you can recruit a special monk called Dousan with a satisfaction bonus. She's incredibly good. After you have her, you can fire the crappy Mino three.

- Mouri and Takeda are the hardest houses. Takeda can be easy if you take them down quickly. After 4 turns pass, their generals start fighting and they are a bitch.

- The larger your overall troop size, the larger the enemy's will be. The game scales theirs by yours and theirs will always be bigger. Increasing your troop sizes too much will only makes things more difficult.

- Asakura is an amazing unit. Once you raise his affection to trust, all your national power territories go up by one. Save this for when you own a lot of land and you'll get a massive boost in national power.

- For every 10 satisfaction, you get a satisfaction bonus and satisfaction is gained from Rance having sex/raping women. So H as many girls as you can.

- If Rance is ever knocked out in a normal troop battle then restart because he has a 100% chance of dying if his troop is eliminated. Rance dying is an automatic game over.

- You always need a foot soldier on the front line. A foot solider should do nothing but guard until there's no threat of high damage. If your strong attackers take too much damage then their attack will be reduced to crap, rendering them useless. Intelligence affects how much percentage guard gives.

- Despite being the "best ninja" Suzume is bad. She's best used for scouting and assassinate 2. Her shurikens are only worth using to cancel preparation. But be sure Suzumine is with you when you take over Iga.

- Be sure to take over the Miko Institute. It has one of the best characters in the game, Natori. There's also a very good monk called Himiko that can be captured.

- If you want to capture enemy units then light attack is a god send. It doesn't have to be the finishing blow. Simply hit them with light attack and eliminate them and you're almost guaranteed of them being captured (assuming they can be captured). I give light attack to Ranmaru because she doesn't have a second ability worth using.

- When the Demon Army starts taking over other territories, they will have a blitz where all the Shimazu brothers attack in one turn. This only happens once. You'd have to have a really good team to fend off every attack. So don't worry about it.

If you've taken control of several provinces bordering the Demon army, you only have to defend against 1 or 2 attacks on a whole.

Every time somebody posts this, I roll my eyes. The scaling is modified by difficulty. On normal, you have a 50% bonus over the enemy scaling. The only way this will cause you problems is if you have some shitty unit three or four times the size of every other unit. So long as you keep everybody's (except Footmen) units about the same size, NP will have drastically more impact than troop size.

What usually happens is that when people are bad at the game, they do things that makes the game even harder.
Like if they pick a fight with a strong army while they have are weak generic/starting units. Since they lose, their reaction is to build up their army and try again instead of going after someone weaker or trying to recruit stronger characters. That exacerbates the issue by leaving their economy at the same crappy level, and spending their money on the units with crappy stats.

The army and the troop type have geometric effects. Monsters and peasants get a massive bonus to troop counts because they're pathetically weak. The western countries also have big bonuses to troop counts (Mouri because they're predominantly foot soldiers and Takuga because they're Takuga).

I think that most people get stuck on the whole rape thing.
Sure rape is bad, it can be really bad in fact.
But lots of things are really bad, murder for an example.
An army could rush through a city and slaughter everyone and later on be praised as heroes, compared to slaughter rape is merciful.

The people that Rance really rapes and not only takes advantage of a rather forced and short relationship, are mostly women that could be considered "enemies", people might as well could have killed without really being blamed. But yes he rapes others as well and that is bad.

But Rance have done lots of things that could be considered heroic and he have helped and saved many people with/from different things, he really could be considered a hero.
If we look at different people that are considered as "heroes" today, many of them have in fact killed people in one way or another.

Good and bad are subjective terms, and can change depending on your viewpoint.
Can rape be excused with twisted logic and/or good deeds? Perhaps not, but can murder be excused with logic and/or good deeds?

Rance doesn't aim for evil deeds, he wants to live in a good world and he wants people to be happy.
In a sense Rance is the typical anti-hero, a hero that lacks typical hero qualities.

I am not entirely sure wether or not I would place Rance on the "evil" scale of things or not, I just find that each and every discussion about Rance being "good" or "bad" gets stuck on him being a rapist.
