大海原と大海原 is a great place to start, it's one of my all time favorites. It's a story about innocence and love set in a beautiful ocean Candyland.

I've been too focused on playing new titles to try the remake (大海原と大海原 -Reboot-) yet, but it's supposed to just have gameplay changes, additional art, and extra omake stories, while leaving everything else intact, so there should be no harm in playing it instead of the original.

I haven't even finished a route yet, so this is of course subject to change, but it's actually very good so far. I really like the way the main plot is developed in the background and how MC and the crew is slowly brought into it. The story itself I find fairly interesting and at least one of the antagonists has a pretty good motivation behind him. On the character front, the parallels between MC and Yuu are also written pretty well. There's a few action scenes in here. If you're looking for endless text of chuuni autism, you won't find it in this game. The scenes aren't particularly long and it's not like highly elaborate fighting or anything. But I found it solid enough and it did what it was supposed to do. I presume Yuzusoft never really made another game like this one, and well that's honestly kind of disappointing. It's really good so far. If the whole game stays on this level and ends in a convincing manner, I'll be singing its praises on here.

I've finished less than 10 eroge (all moege) and less than 10 LN series, having enjoyed them all, and I'd like to know if anyone has a recommendation for me. Specifically I'd really be interested to try a game that does the classic common route plus heroine routes setup which I love so much, but with more of the adventuring and plot akin to an LN series. Something like 被弾のアリア, just as an example. Oh I get that, I'm not anticipating something super large scale in plot, it's more about the sense of adventure. And a lot of the LNs I've read are definitely simple enough to work routes into. Also I don't even principally agree that very large scale adventure stories can't work with the multi-route system since they're ultimately alternate timelines which is done a lot, it's just that it takes lots of extra effort that way, like writing a whole extra work so the production scale/budget becomes less feasible especially if the medium isn't just raw text

I think Rance VI handles H-scenes very well from a story perspective.
Firstly, the pacing is good. They're generally ten minutes or less each, and they're spread out fairly evenly throughout the game.
Most of them have an interesting memorable concept that makes them entertaining to read even if you don't find them arousing.
They do a great job of developing the characters. There are examples of characters like Tamanegi and Shitomone who get most (if not all) of their character development through their H-scenes. Rance as well has a lot of personal growth moments in his H-scenes, in addition to providing plenty of wonderful Rance-isms as per usual.
In particular the "Zombie Elf" scene may be one of the most memorable H-scenes of all time. I've seen Japanese readers use it as a yardstick to describe the level of intensity of H-scenes in other games.

It isn't perfect; for example the "Yankee" scene stands out as my least favorite in the whole series. I suppose that's somewhat to be expected given just how many scenes the game has, and I assume that there were a number of writers working on them and not just Tori.
But what's important it uses H-scenes as a powerful storytelling tool, rather than just including them as a token gesture.
