It's honestly a tragedy and now I feel like ranting a bit so excuse me. Looking at the art and the unbelievable VA cast (fucking Hidekatsu Shibata), it looks like a forgotten gem, but in this case there's a reason everyone forgot about it. The writing is utter trash that is full of inconsistency and general nonsense. It's even worse because the common route is solid and enjoyable so you get fooled into thinking the character routes and overall story will deliver, but they don't. Takayuki's characterization wildly changes across routes for literally no reason. Sometimes, he's a mustache-twirling villain. Other times, he's a good guy hero. The doctor character that Wakamoto plays makes no sense. Spoiler territory here but he has some bullshit power that lets him summon another version of himself from a nearby parallel universe so he's effectively immortal. The problem is that he gets killed in two of the routes and then stays out of sight and does nothing because who knows. It's even worse because MC does a cool lightning move to "kill" him in Tou's route, and then the story treats him as if he's dead and gone for good. But you know from other routes, bad endings, etc. that he's not and there's zero justification for why the doctor didn't just appear from the portal again to say hello. In a couple of other routes, they show that he has the ability to come back immediately after being killed and killing him permanently takes special circumstances. MC is also another failure here on the character front. In exactly one route (Tou's), he has a berserk mode triggered by being unable to control his powers. He even murders innocent people because of it. MC has some trauma over being a murderer for a couple of scene but gets over it. And then this is literally never addressed again in the story because who knows. The berserk mode thing only appears in one route and he has zero troubles or problems in any other route. This is completely unexplained.

The fight writing was also wildly inconsistent. Some of them were actually really good. One certain Tou vs Tsukiko fight was probably the best in the entire game and actually fucking great. And then others are complete wet farts. There is a major boss fight at one point where the villain literally dies in one shot. It's so perplexing because the build up was really good and hypes you up as a reader like it's supposed to do. And then when you get to the part where it starts, the villain gets oneshotted and that's it. All that time designing the bad guy seemed completely pointless. Another problem is that MC is too weak way too fucking long. Imagine if you were reading Dies Irae and Ren had to constantly get bailed out of every conflict until he finally fights Reinhard. It kind of felt like that. There were plenty of opportunities and logical places for the writers to just give MC a nice, clean win. It would have been completely logical and expected given the story progression, etc. But for some reason they refused to do that and have some other character save him at the last minute.

The big secret/reveal of the island is one of the most anti-climatic things I've ever read. It's even more bizarre because in one route, ルーガル and ハイン manage to reach the lair and then proceed to wreck shop and destroy the old dudes (forgot what they called them) in like a few minutes. This is literally a grand conspiracy dating hundreds of years and a couple of overpowered 外人 just blows them out like it's just part of their dayjob. As I keep typing, I remember more stupid things about this story. Ugachi's character makes no sense and is never explained. Hokuto only plays a significant in one route and once again this doesn't make sense. She's a super powerful character that works for Takayuki. Why the fuck wouldn't he have her helping her in his schemes? She actually appears in Sakuroko's route in a bad end which doesn't help. They obviously only put that end to tease this mystery character for the future, but logically in the story there is no reason why she would not be heavily involved in every route. In Sakurako's route, Riko dies. She dies in other routes, but this is the egregious one. It is never addressed and MC and Sakurako just ignore it. If I recall correctly, there is a brief narration about how she went missing or something. It's even dumber because she technically dies in MC's presence but he chooses to not take the mask off. It's a superman-tier level of disguise anyway so it's always obvious who she was but I guess you just have to suspend your disbelief there. Anyways, so much for being close friends/family guys. Shougen is a complete waste of a villain as well who does nothing of consequence other than looking at MC funny.

tl;dr: fuck this game man. I will never read anything with any of these writers name on it just because of this. There was some other Terios stuff I saw that seemingly had interesting premises, but if everything is on the level of this mess, no way. There's still more things I can complain about too. I didn't even get to everything.

That's Ouju no Shima done. Great VN, I think it's my second favorite of the clockup dark chuuniguronukige after Maggot Baits. My biggest complaints with it are that it was quite short (took me roughly 8 hours according to the built-in reading time) and that a lot of the h-scenes were unfappable - I'm not referring exclusively to the guro ones, even the more vanilla (relatively) just weren't very erotic. Being short isn't even really a problem, I was just enjoying it enough that I wish it was way longer, this could've easily been one of the massive chuunige. It had great characters, a really interesting setting, great fight scenes with a cool unique power system, absolutely fantastic soundtrack, everything you want in a chuunige.

Shinobu is the best girl by the mile, there's no real competition. I think I liked Kan-chan's route and ending more than Fuminari's, even if Fuminari's is technically a happier ending and I guess canon because it directly relates to real-world events that don't happen if you pick the other route?

I love that clockup makes this weird games that are just so wildly different than everything else in the industry. They're not all hits, but I really appreciate that they're willing to take wild swings even if they miss.

The chapter select screen seems to spoil you on the length and how much is left.
Some backgrounds are just blurred real life pictures and the characters in some cgs appear off model.
The writers seemed to have a toolbox of uncommon words that they recycled frequently like ポルチオ
The word 澱 popped up more than once and I wonder if they're just teasing the people who have been waiting years for it to finally get some update.
Given the release delay and huge day 0 patch for the package version, my impression is that the devs were probably short on time as it lacks the polish of their previous games.

That said, I like the setting and vibe more than yourou and dead days.
