I won't lie and tell you that I wish I wasn't any closer to the stage, but even sitting back in the the last row I had a ton of fun. It gave a great view of the entire stadium which really added a lot to the show for me, sitting down is probably weird for most too but this was my first concert ever so it wasn't that weird and I was more than happy cheering and pumping my fist and head instead. The crowd was also amazing and electric.

If you told me that in 4 years she'd come to Toronto again, with the same stadium, same price and same TV screen, I'd be disappointed, but it'd also easily buy a ticket. Ton of fun.

Miku expo is never held anywhere near close to where I live, but if it was, the couple friends I could probably convince to go with me aren't into Vocaloid at all, they would just go for me like I sometimes go to the stuff they like for them. My friends and coworkers didn't really know much about vocaloid but then they got into it because I showed them different songs and stuff. If you know anyone with even a small interest in Japanese culture it's not too hard to get them on board. My main problem with CGI is the fact it's used in the anime industry as replacement for 2d animation. I "signed up" for something and that's what I would expect but then for whatever reason CGI is shoehorned down your throat and it just ruins the experience for me. There is nothing wrong with CGI per se but I would assume that generative AI is going to be used for 2d animations, AKA anime. The first time I went to MM I applied for 5 tickets and won all of them. Not regretting it, better safe than sorry. On the next visit, me and all my friends only applied for one ticket each, and one of was out of luck unfortunately. If you are going with someone and can afford it, I think it's best if each of you got double ticket just to be safe in case one of you don't get it.

I listen to foreign language music a lot because understanding the lyrics seems to engage the language processing part of my brain and hurts my ability to multitask, particularly when trying to write. Originally only had this problem with English but over time with a lot of listening and conversational aptitude in a few languages it became a problem with basically every germanic/romance language even the ones I can't speak. Since once you know a few listening to the others is like a madlibs where you recognize many of the words but get hit with a ??? every few lines.

I don't think there's any way I would like vocaloid as much as I do if I was a Japanese speaker which is part of why I've avoided learning it and also avoid looking at lyric translations. I'm far more selective with what I listen to when it comes to English vocaloid because of this and some other issues (most banks sounding bad in english, most english producers using faggy voices like oliver, etc).

As for travel advice, what I do with anything that requires any amount of research, is to check several places. 4chan has always had great advice in many areas but there's also a load of shit to waddle through in order to get to it, and other places will provide other angles of information. So yeah worth checking but don't let it be your only source of info.

So after listening to a couple of songs featuring Yukari Rei, I think I'm softening my stance on it.

It's not THAT bad. Initially I thought she sounded too different but I think the fact that her voice provider actually tried hard to sound like the vocaloid helped alleviate the cevio engine noise. If the music is loud enough you can sometimes forget that it's Rei if you're not listening close enough.

However, it is still overall a downgrade to a bank released 6 years ago. But I guess the fact that she can sing in cevio means she's more engine independent, which can be a good thing.

it's a beautiful album, one of the most striking i've found recently. if i had to complain about something, it's that the vocals are so muddy and soft as to be nearly incomprehensible. my japanese is shit but i can usually pick out the syllables well enough at the very least. still, just taking the songs at face value entirely based on how they sound, it's great. i don't think i've ever found myself listening so closely to individual instrument tracks on a vocaloid album before. the vocal tracks blend in with them as just another instrument, if i stop trying to understand them it makes for a very relaxing listen. it's a bit reminiscent of what i've heard of treow/electrocutica, but exclusively the softer parts without the ramping intensity.
