Sharin was pretty good, I played that just before playing this. it had a great MC and interesting characters who actually had personality. They were the complete opposite of those in Cross Channel. CC had a more interesting concept, but it came together terribly.

They will made a good tower of flesh, I mean friends.

The characters of CC all had a very interesting personalities.
Your problem was probably the fact that the game didn't try to make them appear attractive to the reader in a pandering way.
The story didn't hesitate to show the bad side of the characters.

Cross Channel is a polarizing VN because of its thematic and focus, that some people dislike it because of that is understandable.
But anyone that state that it's shitty is clearly retarded.

The writing was great (for this media), it was very enjoyable to read thank to a pretty witty prose, something that is very rarely found in VNs
Taichi was a great character, the way the game showed the darker part of his personality little by little was really well done.
The thematic of "crossing" with people was really well brought out without ever being pedantic which is appreciable.
The rest of the cast was very interesting and each of their "case" fitted the thematic very well.

It was a really good experience, you could say it was a trip into the mind of a "deviant" that showed his worst and most beautiful sides.

While, I'm unfortunately not that experienced as yourself, as I only played 24 of that chart, however even though I didn't really enjoy Cross Channel too much, I have to say it was a lot less "bland, generic, one-dimensional, and completely boring" than any of those 24 I played. Mind sharing your experiences just how was it possible to enjoy these ones more than you did Cross Channel?
