Seriously: After thinking about the various characters and plotlines, I realized that Caster and Rider were the best, most suitable servants in the game for Shirou, and the the story would have been much better with either of them as his servant.

Besides the fact that they're incredibly hot, they're the best partners for Shirou on both a character-development and plot standpoints. Both are "bad" servants, and Shirou is the epitome of good and selflessness. Pairing him up with opposites will force a change in both. And finally, they are weaker servants; Caster is a support servant who would be crushed by any other in a direct confrontation given Shirou's mana reserves, and Rider is a very weak servant who wouldn't be able to stand up to any real servant regardless of her Master's powerlevel. With one of these weaker servants, the protagonists will be forced to use smarts and genuine heroism to eek out every meager victory; every fight will be against huge odds, and that's what makes them exciting.

Well....no. A Servant's mana reserve is directly linked with the reserves of the master, unless the Servant takes actions to suck mana through taking it from others. Caster is screwed because she spends a lot of it using her magic -- Shirou's shit reserves would be nothing for Caster, and Shirou would use his command seals to stop her from trying to gather it from muggles.

Well, that was a dissapointment

Caster is weak. She has some cool support abilities and some neat-o magic, but none of it helps her when a combat class gets into her face swinging large objects. She won't be able to protect Shirou that much being effectively gimped for mana income, and best she can act as a support, using small-scale magic to confuse enemies. She's plead with him to let her do what she has to do, but he'll put his foot down. Given her character she'll probably fall hard for him, so if she does usurp control it'll be "for his own good", which is of course make the plan fail.

Rider is probably less mana dependant for her abilities, but she's simply weaksauce.She has one good tech, but any high-ranking servant has the hax to take her out regardless.

If you think about it, there aren't many Servants who would be WORSE with Shirou than Saber was.
