Then she asked, (was the kid that he's talking about) the one that comes chasing after you, or the strong one?
So, she was trying to figure out which of the neighbor's kids was he talking about by using her impression of the kids.

My best guess is that she means かみのけ and きれい because かみなげ is not a real word. Maybe it's intentionally distorted because she's eating and her mouth is full.
If that's not the case a few people in the thread will probably tell me that I'm retarded.

so the conversation goes like this
>you know there are those two big sisters, right?
>so the one with the pretty hair?
>that's not what I meant

Sorry if I'm not being clear enough, the usual explanation of を is that "it marks the direct object of a verb"/"it's the object that's the verb being acted upon", so I assumed を would be used together with "transitive verbs"/"verbs that directly affects/alters the object" like 食べる.
But 歩く doesn't alter an object, it's an intransitive verb that doesn't need an object, it also doesn't alter the object directly, thus eliminating を usage. But here it's used together with 公園を歩く. I'm so confused, I thought nips would use 公園で歩く to express that they are walking through the park, but instead を is used here.

According to kotobank を has those two usages, marks the direct object but also the place where a directional action is done. I think you should just learn both usages as seperate things and since one is used for transitive verbs only and the other for intransitive it's easy to know which is used in a sentence.

The を particle marks the direct object in all cases except when marking specified routes or tracks. It's one of the few times you'll see it be used with intransitive verbs, outside of colloquial speech of course.
>電車に乗る uses に instead of を
This shouldn't confuse you seeing as this is the normal usage of に. 乗る ("to get on") is an intransitive verb, so it doesn't take a direct object, and に just marks the destination of the action, 電車 ("the train").
I know you're probably reading this and being like, "wait, I already knew that," but the fundamentals can surprisingly be hard to get down. I've seen Jamal and co. make so many beginner mistakes, it's unreal.

Connor genuinely surprises me. How is it possible for someone who lives in Japan, and has been there for 4 years, to make absolutely zero progress despite going to language school as well? It's almost as if he doesn't really want to learn the language.
I agree anon, it's negative progress, I doubt he could pass N5. He reminds me of a friend I have who I went to Japan with twice, who has been studying for 5 years yet cannot construct a single sentence and still uses Duolingo. Is Connor just a brainlet?

in japanese, the phrase "nip something in the bud" can be translated as:
>芽を摘む
literally, this phrase means "to pluck off a bud." it is used metaphorically to express the idea of stopping something at an early stage before it becomes a more serious problem, just like removing a bud before it can grow and develop further.
here's an example of how to use this phrase in a sentence:
>問題が大きくなる前に芽を摘んでおかないと。
>"we need to nip the problem in the bud before it gets bigger."
this japanese phrase effectively conveys the same meaning as the english idiom "nip something in the bud."

How do you learn from vtubers? I keep seeing "watch vtubers" but I'm not sure how I should be engaging with the content. Should I be watching subbed videos? en and jp subs? No subs and just sit there and try to deduce from my knowledge and context? I'm just not sure what I should actively be doing

It's not bad listening practice, I just don't think there's a way to glean much from them. They ramble a lot and the discussion is pretty low-level, but it's ultimately a catch 22. If you're good enough to follow what they're talking about, then you should probably move on from it. If you're too bad that you find what they're saying difficult, then you should focus on something else first.
Obviously, if you're someone who's really passionate about vtubers, then by all means listen to them. I just don't find it very useful from a learning perspective.

had a chilling murder mystery dream in a dark vampire hunter d artstyle anime setting
secret vampires are gathered for a huge ball at a secluded manor deep in the countryside under the cloak of night
sexy anime women surround mc (experienced him in a 1st and 3rd person shift like a movie)
dream rips open with a girl next to mc pulling out a gun and shooting another girl dead point blank
scene cuts to flashing cop cars swarming the manor
mc is internally mentally unstable and i cant tell from his fractured monologue if he orchestrated the kill but my guts churn with a bizzare vicarious mix of sadness and morbid arousal
there seems to be some deep history connecting all the involved characters
mc detained and on a long journey to a distant station escorted by a lone sexy policewoman
the miles stretch endlessly under a starless sky before a suffocating panic attack plunges the world into darkness
next scene is mc sprawled on the roadside having somehow escaped from the car with the cop nowhere in sight
he finds him drawn back to the manor for some inexplicable reason
cuts to him nearing the scene running into another cop chick on guard some distance out from the manor cordoning off the road leading to it
mania grips the mc and instead of detouring off road culminates in a tense suspenseful scene as he sneaks up from behind and tackles her
things are about to get steamy but then i wake up

how do you know how to pronounce the letter "e" in an english word, or name?
well, because you know the word and have heard it before, simple.
for example, theres an actress called ashley greene.
when i first saw her name, i wasnt sure if that last e was silent or not.
same with the popular meme "doge" as in "dogecoin"
some people seem to pronounce doggy, while others more like doe-j
