I think it is easier to memorize the jap names personally. Idk. Some I think about it english some not, I always think of seven pairs as seven pairs, or ippatsu as ippatsu.

You should definitely work on your defense, as it seemed completely non-existent. Even with two players who reached, you would continue with your tsumokiri, discarding live tiles. You were lucky you didn't deal in a hand a single time, but you might not be always that lucky. When you've got the lead, you don't need to earn more points, you just have to keep the ones you already won.

I rarely defend when I'm way behind, since I don't care at that point and need to win, but if I'm ahead and somebody declares richi, I always defend UNLESS I'm one tile away from richi myself. Some people say to throw away the entire hand, but I'd much rather risk getting into richi and winning with a +2600 cheap hand than to let some fag tsumo with me being the dealer and him gaining +18000. It all depends on the situation.
