Goddamnit. What's up with Japan and timeloops? Even the ending....

>> No.4661461

Haruhi was the only instance. Give another example.

Oh well, at least cross channel had some good moments. Like the final week with Kiri. ;_;

Timeloops? In my VN?

Timeloops are hardly a japanese only experience.

Ever17, timeloop? Hardly.

>> No.4661562

>>4661461

Higurashi and Umineko, though it's more like MASS PARALLEL UNIVERSES rather than a literal time loop.

>> No.4661563

Time loops are particularly overdone in VNs because they give an excuse to the concept of experiencing the same time period repeatedly (doing multiple routes).

See F/HA, Kagetsu Tohya, etc etc etc...

All the best eroges have time loops.

(Ever17 did not have a time loop)

Although whether this is actually a time loop is also up for debate.

This. Exactly this. Goddamnit.

I don't think something that's revealed within the first hour of the game is really a spoiler.

Don't worry, it wasn't much of a spoiler. If I wanted to spoil you I'd tell you how you were the little girl, Kiri and Miki repeatedly kill people with crossbows, Youko and Miki know about the loop, how you live your life alone inside the timeloop while fixing that fucking antenna every week and such things.

>> No.4661737

Time loop worked well with Taichi's character, too. It gives you a chance to see just how fucking crazy he is without making things irreversible. Plus, all the loops made the pile of diaries/hokora/Nanaka scene all the more depressing.

>> No.4661794

>>4661737
Playing Cross Channel really made me hate Taichi's character. Thinking about Taichi's self-hatred, that might've been intended. If it was intended by the devs, they did a good job.

Is there even a way to finish the game without raping Kiri? Especially the toilet scene.. I was thankful to Youko for that flashbang. ;_;

>> No.4661808

Man, I really wished there was a Nanaca route...

I don't really care if she is his mom...

>> No.4661823

Is Tower of Friends worth the trouble of getting? Does it tie up any important events missed from the main game?

>> No.4661824

>>4661794
The fact that he was hateable was what made me like him, I guess? I think a lot of people have problems with Cross Channel because it doesn't have any qualms about presenting characters with really profound, often infuriating or disgusting flaws. Taichi is not a "good" guy by any means, but I still found his story affecting. And no, you can't avoid raping Kiri (though it was more exploitation than rape, but that's splitting hairs at best). I think that route is there to disabuse you of any notion that Taichi is a safe person to be around.

>> No.4661834

It clears up a few loose ends in the main story, but in a slightly confusing way.

Also, one of the bonus scenarios is incredibly creepy/depressing and well worth the half hour of your time it would take to read it.

>> No.4661883

I didn't really catch what mental instability Sakuraba or Tomoki had.

Or does the extra scenario clear that up?

>> No.4661892

>>4661824
Me, on the other hand.. I guess I like VNs with as neutral protagonists as possible, with chances to actually influence your behavior. That makes identifying with them easier, at least for me.

>>4661834
>>4661855
Do you still play as Taichi in Tower of Friends? If yes, just spoil it to me. I don't want to play as him any more.

>> No.4661930

>>4661892
I prefer well written characters myself. Yes, you play as Taichi. You find out where the blood in the hall that Miki was cleaning up at the start of the game came from (Miki herself; it's complicated) as well as the old man body Kiri discovers (alternate world Taichi; again, kind of complicated to explain).

>> No.4662004

>>4661930
Thanks.

It certainly is a hard, if not impossible, task to write a good/deep VN protagonist while keeping him as neutral as possible. It would've ruined the story in Cross Channel's case.

And your explanation made me curious... did Miki hurt herself? What happened?

>> No.4662030

>>4662004
>>4661892
Alternate world Taichi flips out and kills everyone, including Miki, whom he brutally stabs to death. Taichi finally breaks down for good and dies somewhere a little while from the town, but not before witnessing Taichi and the others from the "real" world crossing over into alternate Taichi's world. I think.
I can understand why you want a neutral protagonist; the medium would seem to lend itself towards one like that. When you're given choices, it's only natural that you want them to have meaning. I guess the problem is whether you want to exploit the medium in that way or see it purely as a vessel for telling stories.

>> No.4662092

>>4661883
I thought Sakuraba didn't have one, but instead came because he came because of Taichi, if what Taichi is saying is true.

How the hell was Kiri able to use that crossbow, she couldn't even carry a CRT monitor.
