Gou/Sotsu did several things that upset me, but one of the things I quite liked was that it made Hanyuu look more mature than she did in the Deen anime, giving her an obvious chest, a somewhat taller stature, and somr curvier hips. In Sotsu I feel like Hanyuu was the only character that was assassinated in "reverse" in a sense, they made her look really good, like she actually had natural character growth. My love for Hanyuu has been pretty steadfast in just about every depiction I've seen of her, be it her normal depiction, her historical self in Hairyuun, or even that one arc in the manga where she lost it -- pardon my lack of knowing what that chapter is called but I'm pretty sure it was a manga only chapter. While I certainly wouldn't enjoy a "Hanyuu is the villain" theory, I'll definitely respect it if it can be substantiated; even if it's true, it isn't like it's impossible to love villains either. Looking at Higurashi, Takano was one of the closest things we had to a villain in the original story, and she was still plenty lovable in her own right, and looking at other media we can see characters like Sosuke Aizen from Bleach who is easily one of if not THE most popular character despite being a series big-bad.
My point is, I highly doubt anything can shake my passion for her, especially after so many years of emotional investment at this point. Knowing myself and my knack for detail in some cases, if I find that the theory is shakily substantiated, I could see myself defending her in an Ace Attorney or Umineko-like debate.

Umineko just doubles down on his annoying habit of repeating the same sentence 40 times rephrased different ways and shoving the theme in your face, other than that it's pretty much the same, you're just suffering from Battler being annoying and Umineko being long. But a lot more is gained in general in Higurashi by having different character POVs, because the entire story is built around a bunch of schizophrenics you really get to enjoy jumping around in their heads compared to the few times you do in Umineko. Altogether I like Umineko's writing better (at least for what it is) but Ryukishi's character writing is way better suited for a story like Higurashi with a smaller scale. He's a god at getting you into a character's head but the whole point of Umineko is getting into the head of a character you can't even identify while being stuck in the head of someone who's more clueless than you are, so the best part of his writing gets overblown by the worst.
Also Onikakushi just blows Legend out of the water as a part 1 in general, the start of Umineko is the most boring shit ever the first time you read it until you get to the thick of the family conflict while Higurashi at least has cute girls fucking around at school where the day-by-day shenanigans write themselves.

Umineko is written vastly better than Higurashi, and Onikakushi is not a shade on Legend. Some characters do have very good dialogue. Like basically any time Beato in on screen is very fun.
But a lot of them are kinda bland or have only like 1 gimmick is their entire character. Like Kumasawa or Hideyoshi what do they even do? But even more relevant ones like George are bland as fuck, and the only development he gets is like 1 scene where he goes "huurr im an incel" and then doesnt even have any screentime past that. Rudolf and Kyrie also didnt get that much development even though theyre quite important. Especially Kyrie it doesnt even make sense that she founds out about Battler and then its all the same

The first ep focuses more on Keichii, Rena and Mion, the second on Mion and Shion, third on Satoko, fourth on Rika, with each one tying that focus into the plot. Theres also the way in which things are structured in the first couple episodes where, as the twilights are carried out, some characters are left alive until the end and usually you get to know them more. Like you get to know Natsuhi, Rosa and Eva better in the first couple episodes.
When reading it the first time I was kind of hoping that dynamic would keep playing out but obviously that shit goes off the rails later. I was kinda disappointed that Ep6 and 7 never got fully "finished" on the island.
And I guess... maybe? You can take Ep7's Teaparty as giving you more of Rudolf and Kyrie but its very cruel.

Thinking about it its kind of interesting how much focus Natsuhi got I mean she had Ep1 where she was a big star, Ep4 where uh she dies but its shown how important she is to Krauss and how actually she's the one thats less dumb of the 2, and Ep5 where she's bullied

You know it would have been fun, for example, to have in Ep7 Shannon is the one who "takes over" as a character who takes decisions and tries to expose the culprit. It would have mirrored the way that Beato "revives" if you also had Shannon "remember" how she likes mystery novels a lot and is actually very smart. And then Shannon and Battler together expose Erika and everyone explodes happily

Natsuhi's importance is interesting as well. In the original ep 1-3 OP she's given a big focus, along with a clock and a beating heart... sure, her hiding Kinzo's death is a big factor in the mystery, but it's kind of unconnected to the Beatrice identity stuff, which is what the heart is usually associated with. I wonder what was up with that.

She IS the villain, but not really the Kazuho we see. "Kazuho" is more like a "character" created by the villain to infiltrate the others, which is why she can only remember her past in rough lines, her "past" is a lie (Kimiyoshi who lived in St.Lucia's dorm alone, suddenly receives message from Kiichiro in 93, etc. It's all a lie).

It's like if Shannon and Kanon were actual separate personalities, and were unaware of that, rather than it just being Yasu pretending.

Im imagining a VN similar to Higurashi, but its set in the Americas before the arrival of the Europeans, and it explores the various customs and legends from across different cultures. Theres probably some connecting thread (like maybe the MC is the same "soul" or is related in some way, or maybe its just their role in the village or something (a kid, maybe a bit of an outcast) that ties the stories together. Theres definitely some suffering and the MC is the victim of human sacrifices and the like.
then the "answers" arcs is basically when the Euros come and they fuck them all up and then they convert everyone and thats how the suffering ends. The soul of the MC finally ascends to heaven instead of hanging around in these cursed civilizations and The Message is basically that only G-d can save you
