I used to post here back in the later Umineko days before Sotsugou got popular and the stupid Rika and Satoko posting happened, you could get away with a lot more back then. Some twink Italian with a manifesto wanted to argue about the truth. We argued for ages. We played cat and mouse. First time I was on his case the whole time about logic errors and he never recovered. Then we switched, he had trouble keeping up with me and was getting reckless in arguments even trying to write English. This loser didn't even stop at the end of the argument and just moved on to Higurashi and talked about exploding air conditioners from cars in a swamp. That pissed me off. I tracked him down and followed him for about 30 miles to a gas station outside Rome when he got out I jumped him, dragged him into the bathroom, the door to which was just in the back of the building, and had my way with him. Now, I'm not gay, I never did anything remotely like that before or since, but just the domination of him was really something. I left him sobbing on the floor and drove off. It really was a different time.

In chapter 7 it is established that the curse has been mostly due to the syndrome and Takano.
And the curse this year is a ploy by Takano to kill Tomitake, fake her death, kill Rika and the rest of the village as revenge for her grandfather's article being rejected.
Then... what exactly happened in ch1? Takano "died", Tomitake died, but Rika and the rest of the village were perfectly fine weeks after the Watanagashi.

Some umineko thoughts since I finished it recently

I was surprised that I mostly liked most characters in the answers arcs. Every time they introduced a new one I was scared theyd be dumb or annoying or wed get abig tangent but I ended up liking most of them. I was especially surprised by Dlanor who I thought would be a bitch but she was very cute and kind and I liked how she ended up in Battler's side rather than Erika's in the big fight
Ep7 was fucking kino it reminded me of Ep1 a lot and that was one of my favorites in the questions arcs.
Ange is fucking dumb like stupid as bricks I was really seething and upset when she kept denying the FUN halloweeen party but it all worked out in the end.
Ep5 and 6 felt kinda like bullshit in a lot of parts but I guess looking back on it it wasnt that bad. The part where Shannon and Kannon were in the same room particularly got to me and also in Ep6 when Battler is the "game master" and it annoyed me how generally speaking in games, if you do something then the GM knows, they have perfect information, but then Erika bullshits around with her "oh teehee akshually i killed everyone ;)" but I get that the point is that its kind of bullshit (kids DO pull this sort of shit off when playing and being annoying and yes its bullshit and shes bullshitting and being a shithead without love)
I still don't think I quite get the golden truth I mean I think I kind of do but I couldnt put it into a sentence

Tohya wrote it mainly for Ange because even though he's scared of meeting her, he knows can't just leave Ange alone with nothing. It's his way of bringing her (And hopefully himself) closure without actually meeting her. It'd be weird if he just forgot about her and left her with nothing, he isn't that kind of person to just forget about her when he remembers how much he means to her, even if he's no longer the same person and can't meet with her. EP8 zones in on Ange so much and ends with her decision because she's the eventual subject of Umineko, the whole thing was for her and to teach her the meaning of love which Battler figured out too late. The way it's written is also partly to protect his family's image, when in reality most of them were probably shitty people for the most part. I view it as just his way of really coping with all he's been through, he wants to move on but he can't just forget either.

Tohya never really managed to move on for many years even when Ange did thanks to him, but he eventually finds closure by meeting with Ange, their sibling bond is what finally allows them to heal despite the fact neither of them are the same people they used to be. And it allows Tohya to finally escape the purgatory he'd been stuck in for so long once he fully confronts his past self again.

Overall, though, the entire premise was flawed. He made a show just about Satoko and Rika, still dragged the other characters to make them suffer, and them was surprised fans of the other characters weren't satisfied when all the new tragedies and death turn out to be completely gratuitous for them?

And if you care about Satoko and Rika, and like Gou/Sotsu pushing their bond as number 1 above anything else (something even many Rika and Satoko fans don't care about), you're still left with an ending where it says that whole bond was wrong and they have to grow away from that. People cope with alternate readings due to the lack of monologues but in the commentary of the last episode BD R07 outright talks about how Satoko in the end is saying goodbye to her old self attached to Rika and now will build a new world away from her.

So, who the hell was meant to enjoy this story? The remaining people who like it just seem to headcanon their own message and interpretation of the ending, because what R07 actually intended there is just completely unlikeable.

I think part of the problem there is that the director clearly didn't get why people even liked the Deen anime. It was all about the horror and tense atmosphere. It's even worse than that. A lot of people try to say that Satoko was mentally ill and Gou/Sotsu is about someone untreated like that lashing out against the people who didn't care. But R07 actually tries to frame it as Satoko being a perfectly healthy and normal girl whose one problem was not letting go of Rika (which is why that's the only thing Sotsu's ending solves for her character). He doesn't spotlight Satoko's tragedy even though he could have, he tries to frame her as a normal girl in a situation where other people would lash out in the same or even worse.

Nope, R07 outright said in an old stream VN version of Gou/Sotsu wasn't happening and that if you want another version besides the anime, just read the Gou/Meguri manga.

Although I don't think it's even the main reason, I think there's probably some licensing issue with Gou/Sotsu too (when R07 released an official Gou/Sotsu doujin novel, "Another End", and some merch related to it, he was asked if he could sell the physical merch from the event online, he went to get an answer saying there was high demand, and then later returned saying it wouldn't be possible).
