people always described KKHTA as "the sad fic that traumatizes you!" but honestly GLS was always the worse of the two for me. Youmu getting eaten by Yuyuko & everyone being turned into Kaiju sucks but that has nothing on basically 10 characters MINIMUM meeting a gruesome fate every episode (including some bullshit ones. Yuugi would NOT job like that)

Personally I liked the lunarian stuff and the pseudo creation myth, but it is clear that the author had been figuring things out as he went along, originally with the first episodes I thought he was going to do some mirroring between the Scarlet sisters with the Komeijis but then it went with a general gore rampage until finding its footing with the lunarian's lore.
Hope it turns out well in the end though.

I brought up grotesque land story for that, and the reason that the variants scream "Alternate universe Gacha antagonists" to me, with them being an evil overpowered counterpart to the main cast, in a Gacha where you have alternate universes versions of Gensokyo and it's residents, something like the variety is just the natural conclusion for an overarching villain.
